The Atman is the true self in Hinduism. It is beyond identification and beyond worldly existence.

What is the Christian view on the soul? I was raised (and mostly still am) a Christian. In the Christian context, the soul is a part of the body that never dies. It is the part that goes on to salvation or goes on to damnation. It is thought to exist before Earthly incarnation.
