If false prophets stopped teaching that man was only 6000 years in existence, would skeptics have one less falsehood to be skeptical about?

That's not false prophets, that's just stupid people who can't do math. Even if you add up all the begats, and bring it to the present day, you get more than six thousand. But yes, I think it would help relations between these groups if this happened.

I wish a few things would happen, honestly. I wish that spiritual types would stop thinking that just because their beliefs, taken absolutely literally, conflict with what is known NOW, means they have to pick one or the other. I wish atheists would quit thinking everyone with a religion was a troglodyte. I wish YEC people would quit making us all look like troglodytes in the first place. I wish people would realise that religion and science can coexist in the same person. Scientists already realise this. I'm waiting for the rest of the world to catch up.

The gap between believers and skeptics is one of faith. The presence or absence of competing religions to have faith in doesn't make much of a difference. The faithful might be less confused and less enclined to murder eachother in large numbers if there were fewer - or only one - teachings to be faithful to, but the skeptics would still be waiting for proof.

1 John 4:1
Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

That would potentially help believers more, as they wouldn't have one less lie to swallow, and hopefully help them to think about things objectively.

As for skeptics & atheists, we tend to look at the facts.

No because religious schizophrenia is really a difficult sickness to treat.

And who are you to say they are false prophets?

I think so. It's hard to discuss religion in any meaningful way, when you also have to distance yourself from Faith healers, Creationists, and other charlatans.
