A few years back I broke out in a extemely bad case of hives and was on a couple different medications to help take care of it. After they were gone, and throughout the past few years, my skin will start to tingle and itch really bad for about 5-10mins every once in a while ( maybe once or twice a month ). I have no idea what is causing this and when i've gone to see a doctor they can't find anything.
Has anyone ever heard of this or experienced it themselves?

Other things I should point out:
Some times little red dots will appear on my skin, like I'm getting hives again but most of the time it just itches.
Also I haven't taken medication for the hives in the past couple years.

Also the medication the doctor gave me that resulted in my hives break out was Bextra and Augmentin not sure which one caused the hives, so I he had me stop taking both.

Skin can be very mysterious. Doctors can't always tell what is causing irritation. But I know what you're taking about. I have very, very sensitive skin. I can break out in hives at any moment and I can get big red splotches just from scratching a little. I use the dove cool moisture gel in the shower, detergent with no fragrance and I always rinse my laundry/ clothes twice. Avoid very hot water in the shower too. All of these things have helped to calm my skin. Also, watch what you have eaten just before you get that tingle. It could be a food allergy. Good luck and feel better.

Unless you get a Skin test done, (it's kinda like getting accupuncture,) it's the only way you can find out what you're allergic to.
About the hives, I once got them when I was 14. My whole body and face, I mean everything, was affected. I was itchy, and swollen all over. It was as if maybe I had reacted very badly to a 'bee sting'. But no, at that time , I had no idea what was wrong. I ended up in the hospital for a week, and the doctor didn't find anything. The only thing was they gave me Benadryl and in minutes the swelling and iching was gone! I was injected of course, it's better than tablets! Injections work faster.Tablets can take a few hours.
The weird thing was that the doctor told me that I would have the same episode happening to me again every 10 years. And sure enough, I got it again, when I was 24. Now I'm 27, and I hope I don't get it again at 34!
My advice to you , is go to a specialist or allergist, not a General Practice...when you get the swelling ,don't touch yourself at all, don't scratch, and don't even think about it...get distracted in something else. My doctor also told me it's phsycological!
Good luck! Hope I didn't bore you!

the red dots and itching are usually precursors to hives so you are getting exposed to something that would cause hives if you ingested enough. But in small quantities, it is just causing the itching and subsiding. Keep a food diary of what you eat and drink and when, then when you get itching like that, see what you had in last 12 hours or so.

" Dr. Crusher suggests the two possibilities:
Beware of some dry cleaner's products. Some of the chemicals they use have cause hives and irritations to some. The other possibility, could be allergy to mix fruit juices. Kiwi/strawberry for example.
