Assessing the Army of the Potomic, their strength was their superiority in numbers, but not much....88,000 to the Army of Northern Virginia's 75,000. The Union had greater resources to arm, feed and maintain its' Army, the Confederates had to forage for much of their provisions, in fact it was Heth's Division looking for shoes that caused it to approach Gettysburg.
The biggest weakness 'leading up to' the battle on the rebel side was their lack of a cavalry to screen their movements and reconoiter the Union positions, the result was their inability to choose a battle site of their choosing.
Another weakness was the loss of T Jackson at Chancslorville, leaving the ineffective Ewell in charge of one of the Corps. TJ's death meant they lost a general who had the initiative to seize opportunities, such as taking the high ground on the first day.
Another weakness was the size of Lee's HQ staff, small... He also was over confident (another weakness) in his boys, especially after their route of joe hooker in the previous battle at Chanclorsville.
The biggest strength of the rebs was their RE Lee's generalship, which was not apparent at Gettysburg, as he made the biggest blunder of his career...by sending the Pettigrew-Pickett assault against entrenched musketry and massed artillery fire over an open field a mile and a half wide.

Confederacy's greatest strength was its officer corps. Greatest weakness was a weak central government.
Union's greatest strength was the industrial base. Greatest weakness was the fact that Lincoln had to pander to various regional constituencies, by appointing home-sons as General Officers, no matter their demonstrated incompetence on the battlefield.
