So for those who heard about the whole Hallie Berry story ( for those who haven't: on a talk show she was showing some digitally modified pictures of herself and commented on one where she has a big nose that that was her jewish cousin and now everyone is making a massive deal out of it). Don't you think people are overreacting here?

I mean if i showed you a picture of myself with an afro and said "This is my black cousin" (because obviously black people are known to have very curly hair, just like jewish people are known for their prominant noses) would you get offended? Or am i the only one who finds this whole story a bit crazy?

You're right, this political correctness is making more damage than we possibly now. Here's a video that illustrates the mecanism of racism, enhanced by political correctness: http://worldexplor.blogspot.com/2007/10/how-racism-works.html

No - just because you aren't offended doesn't mean this is political correctness gone mad.

Perpetuating negative stereotypes is wrong - period.

I do think that the media tends to make too much of a big deal about things, though. Everyone has a slip of the lip now and again - but the press seems to enjoy beating these types of slips to death. One can't offer a simple well meant apology anymore, unfortunately.

It is difficult to shed the negative stereotypes that one is brought up with - but I think it is an endeavour worth taking on.

Don't get me wrong here, though, I love Hallie and feel bad for what she'll go through now...I'm sure she didn't mean to really offend anyone - she just wasn't thinking...

Well, of ocourse people took it over board. Jewish people are known for having big noses-lol. But what if someone had said "Hey, my lips look so big, you'd think I'd have black in me"-I'm sure the chicken lovin' watermelon favorties, would of called in to complaint and say that is racist. Plus Halle is mixed, since she is always trying to fight for justice in her culture, saying this was totally inappropriate, if it was Carlos Mencia, that would be a different thing-lol.

Stereotypes are quick to catch on, and almost impossible to forget. Not all blacks have Afros and certainly not all Jews have prominent noses, not all Irishmen drink beer, and not all Italians eat pizza, nor Mexicans eat beans. If certain ethnic groups get offended by these stereotypical labels, you really can't blame them. However, I would say this form of name-calling is inexcusable, and should be ignored and disregarded. It is not correct, political or otherwise.

i agree with you on this issue. Just because she makes a joke, oh my gosh, she caused such an uproar she should be exiled, lol. I mean, come on, its just a stupid joke. Get over it. She is not advocating violence, nor is she deflating the jewish community. I get tired of people who automatically site racism, etc, which is a big title, over something so small. If you don't like the joke, then move on to something else. Get a sense of humor. A joke does not equal racism. She is not hitler.

I agree with you... it is ridiculous. But I believe political correctness has been going insanely out of control. We can't say anyone without "hurting someone's feelings" People are becoming much softer than they used to be and taking away our freedom of speech just because we might offend. It's 1984 coming true.

Why is that bad, when Sandra Bernhart used to start every routine she did with, "I know, nobody white has lips this big but me" or something to that effect, and nobody said a thing?

Everyone is WAY too sensitive and needs to have a reality check.

i think people need to stop being so damn sensitive. everyone loves to act like a victim and get all bent out of shape over nothing.

this is why i make it a point to be completely politically incorrect. if people can't laugh at themselves, i feel really bad for them, and i will be more than happy to laugh for them.

as far as i am concerned, there is nothing so serious that you can't laugh at it.
