Yes but there is a GREAT charge to the God parent!
In our church the God parent take a class about the responsibilities of a Godparent....The child's spiritual growth, and that is God's charge when you except to be the God parent.
--The godparents were counted informally responsible for ensuring that the child's religious education was carried out,

When you choose godparents, you are choosing people that will help you raise your child in a Christian way. They are to help you teach and help your child grow in faith in Jesus Christ. How can a person do this if they are not baptized? As Christians we are instructed to be baptized. So if this person is born again, they need to be baptized. Don't trust your childs salvation to just any one. Choose a godparent that will help you teach about Christ. Choose some one that is knowledgeable in the Scriptures, and someone that follows the word of God. This is a very important position, and it should not be trusted to just any one. If this person is a believer, then get them baptized and then have them be the god parent of your child. How can a person actually teach your child to follow the word of the Lord if they do not do it? I would think that your childs salvation should be the most important thing to you and you will want someone that is able to help your child understand the scriptures, and to help them grow in faith in Christ. Why would you choose someone that does not know any thing about the Scriptures? How can they stand before God on the day of your childs baptisim and swear to God that they will help you teach the child and raise the child in Christ, if they know nothing about Christ? People seem to forget that when you are choosen to be a godparent it is your responsiblility to help teach the child about Christ and help them understand the scriptures. This is not just some honor with no responsibility. It comes with a great deal of responsiblility.Choose someone that knows what they are talking about, and can actually teach your child and help them grow in faith in Christ.

Being a god parents means that you are chosen to help, and assist the parents in raising the child in the faith; to be it's mentor.
Parents choose god parents to support them in that awesome responsibility of teaching their children about their faith, and god parents, along with the parents should be living examples of how to live out that faith.
If you have not accepted Christ as your personal Savior (been saved), or have not made a public profession of that faith, (baptism) you should respectfully decline that honor.

I have two godchildren, one whom is catholic and the other who was raised in a non-denominational church, and I am not baptized.
Edit: Godparents are not always chosen from the same faith... my aunt and uncle are my godparents and they are catholics and I was raised a baptist. In my family we don't care about silly things like what denomination one is....

That's just catholic nonsense. Catholics are not saved and are not Christians. Catholics believe a false gospel of works that leads to eternal hell.
Bible teachers that said that the Vatican and the catholic cult are an antichrist:
John Bunyan, John Huss, John Wycliffe, John Calvin, William Tyndale, John Knox, Thomas Bacon, John Wesley, Charles Spurgeon, Samuel Cooper, John Cotton, and Jonathan Edwards

Yes. But they need to be able to take a vow that their godson or goddaughter will be raised in the Christian faith.
