A friend of mine is getting married to her boyfriend of 8 years. They were going to have a formal wedding, but "The moms" were making plans they did NOT want. Now, they are going on a "weddingmoon" with the kids. My friend is a seamstress. For their special day, she made her own dress. It's a 100% cotton, empire waist, ankle length dress, with blue ribbon around the bust. She has made the same style of dresses for her daughters (same color as the ribbon). She has also made matching shirts for her fiancee and son. She's all ready made her bouquets, boutineers, and 3 hair pieces. She showed me the dresses, and I thought they were cute. They aren't going to wear any shoes because the ceremony is going to be on the beach. "The moms" think their clothing is cheap and tacky. The clothing she made, is VERY well made. What do you think of their choices?

Both sets of parents have been after these two to marry for years. They didn't want to. Both of them are college educated, have their own home etc. The parents were going to pay for the wedding. My friends wanted small and intimate. "The moms" wanted elaborate, fancy, and glamorous. My friends are NOT the partying type. For the exception of not being married, when they had the kids. They are the typical all american family. But you are all right, it's THEIR day. "the moms" are bossy, and OTT control freaks. I don't like either woman. TG I don't have either one of them for a parent.

I actually called my own mom about this situation. She told me to tell moms of grown children seem to think that they still need their parental guidance. Even she has admitted that I've had to put her in her place when it comes to me. I called my friends and spoke with both of them. They are going to have a sit-down with "the moms" and nicely explain how they will and will NOT be treated. I hope it all goes well.

I think its great! Sounds like a great way to make their wedding day memories even more personal and special.
And the dresses themselves sound very beautiful!
and the shirts sound very hansom!
As for the lack of shoes is a great idea. It would be no fun trying to walk on/in sand. And bare feet are so natural and beautiful. ~~~Good luck with the mom troubles

OMG how sweet they sound! I am the mother of an upcoming bride and an up coming groom. A parents job is to make suggestions, be supportive and smile even if you hate the idea of something your child has chosen. Moms have had their day it is not their turn. I just think it is rude and uncalled for a mom to offer such an opinion. Why cant people just be happy for the and not care so much about what the clothing looks like.

I think that's a good idea. I too am getting married and I know what it is like to have somone making plans that you don't like. The moms should ask your friend what she likes. The wedding is supposed to be the bride's special day, so she should have a say in the plans for her wedding.

I think people can feel free to have the opinion that they want. They should be able to express there opinion, and those who listen (which should be lots of people) should have an open mind, and maybe change there opinion. Some opinions may not turn into anything, but it doesnt mean there worthless. Even if nobody treasures your opinion, you should. Its what makes you who you are.

If she's happy with it, that's all that matters. I had the same problem with my family members trying to make decisions for us. I finally told them, I appreciate your suggestions but since my fiance and I are paying for it, we are going to do it our way. They got the hint and backed off.
I think having the weddingmoon is probably a good idea. Family has a way of making it their day and missing the entire point of the meaning of the day. The vows are the important part, who cares what you are wearing as long as you mean the vows you take.
I think her wedding will be beautiful!

It sounds like the Moms are ruining everything.
This couple should do it, their way.
The Bride should use anything/everthing she wants.
Together, as a couple, they should go to both Moms, together .. and tell them if they don't 'butt-out' .. that they will completely do the wedding without them.
It is their wedding. Their life. Their choices.

It's her wedding! She should do what makes her happy and make it a memorable day. It's a once in a life time opportunity and she wouldn't want to regret that she changed her mind on what she liked years down the road.

Sounds lovely for a casual beach wedding. If that was my style I would totally wear the dresses and say screw you to the mothers.
