I realize that sounds like a weak question and maybe it is, but I am wondering if anyone else out there has done this? I respect my family's belief and sometimes (not often) will go along to church at their request. I sincerely believe that most church goers are good people and it is nice to be around people who I know are morally sound; however, I spend the time either daydreaming or thinking of how silly it seems to have people conduct themselves in these repetitive human made rituals thinking that they are speaking directly with God.

Anyone else feel this way?

I am Atheist and I had a buddy who went to church a lot. For awhile I went with him.It had a good message, it was a very non-denominational church with a very positive message, I just chose not to focus on the religion aspect of it. It was like a weekly pep talk, quite refreshing actually.I have been to catholic churches occasionally and even went to catholic high school. Knowing about religion growing up (went to catholic elementary as well) helped me understand my own feelings about religion. I am not anti religion really, its good for those who need it, just not me. I do think that there are many reasons people go to church. Some are certainly more for personal gain than to pray. Networking, friends, have no choice etc. I look at it this way, whatever reason a person chooses to go to church is a personal thing. Either way its not a bad place to be, and you are surrounded by friends and/or family so how can that be bad. Hope that helps a little! (I obviously have more thoughts of religion and church, but I dont want to bore anyone.)

You have probably described a large amount of teens, and young adults.
Most young people questions every aspect of their lives, and that of their parents; their families belief system is not immune to this.
Going to Church is more than human made rituals, its about family, about friends, and people who are trying to make connections; with God, and other people.
Besides that, hearing a positive, and uplifting message of hope, love, grace, peace, and fellowship cannot all be bad can it?

I'm an atheist and I have in the past, but I'm lucky enough to have a family that isn't very religious. One Sunday we decided we had more pressing things to attend to and we haven't been back since. Typical Catholics :P

Yes. I'm agnostic, but the man who babysat me a lot as a kid is the preacher at our church, so I sometimes get asked by him to come. Then I don't turn him down. It would break his heart if he knew my beliefs.

Did that from age 12 to 17. Brought it up, got shot down, went anyway until I could move out.
