All it means is that both your grandfather and father used poor judgment when standing on a chair to change a light bulb. They should have been using a step ladder or a long handled light bulb changer. No doubt you will always associate the act of changing a light bulb with their deaths but remember, too, that millions of bulbs are changed every day and people don't fall. Invest in the best quality ladder you can afford to lessen your fear.

It means they should each have purchased a stable ladder instead of standing on a chair to change a light-bulb...

Chairs are only stable when sitting in them not when standing on them and should never be used in the place of a ladder...

As for your worries get a ladder and use it...

Either it's coincidence (most likely), or your father inherited a poor sense of balance from your grandfather. Either way I'd recommend standing on something sturdy when you change a bulb, both to make you feel safer and out of common sense.

Also, don't let anyone else change a bulb for you. You gotta face your fears!

I am of the belief that what you think seriously affects what actually happens. If you truly believe that there is a curse, or that you're going to die this way, then it is likely you will. If I were you, I'd concentrate on "knowing" that you can and will change lightbulbs safely, and that you will die some other way. Then I would invest in a sturdy stepladder or one of those lightbulb-changing gadgets. Stop thinking about what happened to them, and remember them for the people that they were. You'll find it will help your mental state as well.

Light bulbs are evil because Edison was an Atheist. Use flashlights. Hey, maybe the chairs are to blame. Use a ladder or step stool.

Get one of those little light bulb changing gadgets on a pole so you don't have to stand on a chair while changing light bulbs!...or get a sturdy ladder...chairs aren't meant for standing.

I can't say that I blame you. I think I would get someone else to do light bulbs for me.

You should look up death records on how your great grandfather bit the dust. There could be a male curse in the family.
