I think Paul the apostle to the gentiles said it best: when he wrote these words under the inspiration of God the Holy Spirit: referring to being carnal rather than spiritual.
Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.
1Cr 1:10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and [that] there be no divisions among you; but [that] ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
1Cr 3:3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas [there is] among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?
1Cr 11:18 For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it.
Let's look at some verses dealing with carnal and maybe we can see why.
For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.
Rom 8:7 Because the carnal mind [is] enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
Rom 15:27 It hath pleased them verily; and their debtors they are. For if the Gentiles have been made partakers of their spiritual things, their duty is also to minister unto them in carnal things
1Cr 3:1 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, [even] as unto babes in Christ.
1Cr 3:3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas [there is] among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?
1Cr 3:4 For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I [am] of Apollos; are ye not carnal?
1Cr 9:11 If we have sown unto you spiritual things, [is it] a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things?
2Cr 10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare [are] not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
Hbr 7:16 Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life.
Hbr 9:10 [Which stood] only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed [on them] until the time of reformation.
Let's look at the definition of carnal as used in the scriptures:
Strong's Number: 4559 Greek: sarkikos
from sarx, "flesh," signifies (a) "having the nature of flesh," i.e., sensual, controlled by animal appetites, governed by human nature, instead of by the Spirit of God, 1Cr 3:3 (for ver. 1, see below; same mss. have it in ver. 4); having its seat in the animal nature, or excited by it, 1Pe 2:11, "fleshly," or as the equivalent of "human," with the added idea of weakness, figuratively of the weapons of spiritual warfare, "of the flesh" (AV, "carnal"), 2Cr 10:4; or with the idea of unspirituality, of human wisdom, "fleshly," 2Cr 1:12; (b) "pertaining to the flesh" (i.e., the body), Rom 15:27; 1Cr 9:11.
2 Strong's Number: 4560 Greek: sarkinos
(a) "consisting of flesh," 2Cr 3:3, "tables that are hearts of flesh" (AV, "fleshy tables of the heart"); (b) "pertaining to the natural, transient life of the body," Hbr 7:16, "a carnal commandment;" (c) given up to the flesh, i.e., with almost the same significance as sarkikos, above, Rom 7:14, "I am carnal sold under sin;" 1Cr 3:1 (some texts have sarkikos, in both these places, and in those in (a) and (b), but textual evidence is against it). It is difficult to discriminate between sarkikos and sarkinos in some passages. In regard to 1Pe 2:11, Trench (Syn. lxxi, lxxii) says that sarkikos describes the lusts which have their source in man's corrupt and fallen nature, and the man is sarkikos who allows to the flesh a place which does not belong to it of right; in 1Cr 3:1 sarkinos is an accusation far less grave than sarkikos would have been. The Corinthians saints were making no progress, but they were not anti-spiritual in respect of the particular point with which the Apostle was there dealing. In 1Cr 3:3,4, they are charged with being sarkikos. See FLESHLY, FLESHY.
Pretty clear isn't it. Not all that have accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior are spiritual, many are carnal or worldly minded. It shouldn't surprise you that it is obvious that when we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior we all carry a lot of baggage with us including our carnal nature. Thank God He is the potter and we are the clay. He is still working with us to change us into the glorious image of Christ. Rome wasn't built in a day and we aren't changed in a day. That's why there are divisions.

The answer to your question is simple yet complex. The reason that we have so many different denominations in Christianity is due to the fact that you have so many people interprating the Bible many different ways. The other side to that is that when God reveals Truths in his Word, people create these doctrins and traditions. Once this happens people get so caught up in the one Truth that they miss other Truths that have been revealed to others sometmes even calling them false doctrins. (i.e. the charismatic movement and the faith movement). The main thing is to understand that the universal Truth is that the only way to the Father is through the Son. For there is one God, one Son, and one Spirit.
The second part of your question is the fact that Christians are being persecuted throughout the world, even in the good old USA. When you have organizations like the ACLU, and the Freedom From Religion Foundation who use scare tactics to get there way in many different areas of world happenings, they make themselves look bigger than what they are. However the solution is easy. If the Body of Christ can put away denominational diffences and stop judging one another and come together as one voice we can have a major inpact throughout the USA and the rest of the world. This country was founded on Jewish-Christian principles, as can be seen in the Declaration of Independence. All of the founding fathers sought God first in their lives.

Because humans have a tendency to seek fellowship with like-minded people...people that interpret the bible the same way they do OR, perhaps more accurately, people that are willing to interpret the bible for them in a way they can accept.
People like rules...especially in the face of uncertainty. Many don't want to do the hard work it takes to seek the will of God in everything they do so they look for a church that will give them a set of easy-to-understand rules they can follow. These rules allow them to do whatever they want to do right up to the point where they cross the line created by whatever rule they got from their church. They conveniently forget that God's plan for them isn't the same as it is for every other person...they forget that they have unique skills, talents, and even weaknesses that a common set of rules can't possibly cover. When they don't get what they need from a particular church, they find others in the same boat and set out on a journey to create a new religion that's more compatible with their individual characteristics.

Because ppl make it about self and man made religion. Its not about that at all. Christianity is about being Christlike, loving God enough to obey Him, live in Kingdom living right here on earth, as we prepare to live in the next kingdom. and in loving God enough to obey Him and count it all as joy. ITs not about man made religion, and self. NEither of those has a thing to do with any religion. PPl can operate in fear and be afraid to speak the truth, thats not Christian. We do not operate in a spirit of fear, but a spirit of hope, and we are to live the gospel and speak the gospel without fear or compromise The reason we see so much un Christian like behavior is that not all wearing the Christian label are truly Christians. God says we know them by their fruits. amen
So do we.
SO many when they hear something they dont want to give up, they go to another church and keep finding churches that will tell them what they want to hang onto is OK
God forbid. All we can do is pray for them, and continue to live and speak the truth ourselves.
Thanks for a great question. Religion kills. Jesus saves, heals and delivers. amen

Because the Bible foretold that there would be false Christians who come up and speak twisted things in order to get others to follow them. When they get followers, then this causes much conflict in Christianity. Many christian religions have deviated from what is really in the Bible. Many people try to intrepret the Bible or only focus on parts of the Bible that will benefit them. Others know that their lives are not in harmony with what the Bible teaches, so they try to intrepret things in the Bible that could be used against them into something that agrees with their lifestyle. However, no one should try to change the meaning of God's Word, if anything IT should change OUR LIVES.

Most Christian denoms. believe in the same basic doctrine.
Jesus-God's only son
born of a Virgin
died on the cross for our sins
Rose from the dead on the 3rd day
On this we all agree. Many denoms. have accepted man's traditions over the bible(RCC). Jesus hated this IE Pharisees.
Many denoms. take one small part of bible and make an entire denom. out of it IE Pentecostals-speaking in tongues.
Many denoms. are very much alike-Lutheran, Methodist, Presbyterian.
Many refuse any name but Christian, Church of Christ, Church of God.
BUT we all agree on the same doctrine of Jesus Christ.
basically.
Many will be shocked at what people of what church made it to heaven. Good thing God is merciful.

Maybe belief in myths about a good one in Heaven at war with an evil one cast down to and ruling over Earth creates blind obedience, flawed character, and misguided loyalty that are capable of best satisfying the need and aspiration of a mercenary plutocratic predatory few to achieve and maintain authority, power, order and control. In the minds of those who are enslaved to the will of ideological authorities claiming to know the will of a good one in Heaven at war with an evil one cast down to and ruling over Earth, the idea of making a terrorist attack upon infidels could easily become equated with fighting evil and if death should come as a result then this could be equated with becoming a martyr on the way to gaining entry to Heaven and experiencing divine bliss for the rest of Eternity. From these kinds of equations follows a global shakedown of epic proportions some call a "war on terror". This is a form of extortion where in a desire to profit from the sale and manufacture of the products and services of a beast of a military industrial complex leads a mercenary plutocratic predatory few to patronize those ideological authorities who best lead communities of faithful believers into war with one another over differences of opinion in matters of faith.

Galatians 1 talks about false gospels that can't save. 2 Corinthians talks about "another jesus" that isn't the same one presented in the Bible.
False gospels lead to eternal hell. For example, catholics are not saved and are not Christians. Catholics believe a false gospel of works that leads to eternal hell.
Bible teachers that said that the Vatican and the catholic cult are an antichrist:
John Bunyan, John Huss, John Wycliffe, John Calvin, William Tyndale, John Knox, Thomas Bacon, John Wesley, Charles Spurgeon, Samuel Cooper, John Cotton, and Jonathan Edwards

What percent of "saved christians" do you believe are saved? I agree with you, I wish Christians could find a better way to co-exist and love one another. In my opinion most Christians are judgemental, and hate whatever there unsure of. I've been the hated many times.

Good question, so a star for you.
When Jesus comes back, I don't think he's going to say,"way to go church - all these divisions among you over trivial doctrine-- good job."
We are called to be ONE body in Christ. I think denominations are a sin against this body.
The "world" is supposed to be able to recognize Christians by their love, and we can't even love one another!
