Or will I always feel like poo? I found a kitten that was dumped at my work and I would love to keep her but I'm allergic. Anyone have any tips on this... other than getting rid of her?

I have been allergic to cats all my life, but I love them and now have 2 of them at home. Your body does adjust. My recommendation would be to start bathing the cat in a gentle, cat-specific shampoo - especially since it is a kitten. I know people say cats don't like water, etc., but they do get used to it if you are able to start them young. Bathing them at least every few months helps get rid of the dander in their fur - which is what many people are allergic to. If you don't feel you are able to do this yourself - call around and find a pet hospital or cat boarding facility that does cat bathing/grooming. Also keep up w/ brushing the cat, and make sure to keep it strictly indoors - you don't want her bringing in bits of other things you are allergic to on her fur. Be patient - your allergies will probably flare-up the first few days you have her, but then you'll adjust to having her around.

You can get rid of your cat allergy by taking a teaspoon of LOCAL honey each day. Your body will work with the local honey to build up immunities to all the air born irritants around you. I was allergic to pet dander and pollen until I started taking local honey. I have been allergy free for 20 years. Like all herbal remedies, it will take a while to be effective but you will also notice that you get fewer cold and flu symptoms as well. Stay away from nose sprays and antihistamines-they can dry you out. Dehydration is dangerous to your organs. Major damage can result before you are aware of it.

I'm allergic to all types of animal fur and the sad thing is, I love animals! I've always wanted a pet.

My mother says it's possible for me to build up resistance. She says taking Vitamin C helps and taking allergy medicine. I recommend Benadryl. Claritan works too.

My mother took Vitamin C for a week and she didn't even get the snuffles when we went to visit her friend who has a cat. I, on the other hand who did not take Vitamin C, ended up having to stay outside because I had congestion.

I'm allergic to cats, as is my mom, but we still had a cat or 2 in the house for the most part while I was growing up. We don't now since my stepdad is EXTREMELY allergic to them (his skin gets irritated just from touching one, mine and my mom's were just sneezing/watery eyes allergies). Never did build any immunity to cats, probably never will but who knows. That's just my experience though.

I used to be terribly allergic to cats - and now I have three! Yes you can build up an immunity.

There are medications that work for allergies of all kinds now. A lot are over the counter. If I grew into an allergy of my cats that's what I would have to do. I'm not living without them. Good luck.

I know i had a friend who was very allergic to cats and i have 3 but when she would come to my house they never bothered her. It all depends on how clean your house is. Make sure to vacuum everyday.

Allergy is sort of hyperimmune state. You want to know if you will be desensitized by living with one. You may try for a while. Be prepared to have an option though.
Good luck!

I am allergic to long haired cats but not short haired. So try to find out if your allergic to one particular type and then find out what type of cat you found. Also, take singular or zyrtec. it helps me a lot.

Im allergic and I just make sure to not let them lay on my bed so they dont rub or lay near my face. If you pet it just make sure to wash you hands. I heard people are allergic to the saliva. I noticed washing my hands helped so if I rub my face my eyes wont itch
