If you are a twenty something and not a "hipster" try 3rd Ave. about 35th to 20th if you are more of the indie rock type the East Village. I think the Upper East is little played out these days. That's just from personal observation of people walking around Third Ave is my neighborhood and I'm in the East Village a bit. I'm past the bar hoping age and haven't been to UES in years but humg out there "back in the day"

Upper East Side. From about 87th-74th on Second Ave is where I used to go. 1st and 3rd Aves have a few good spots too.
