Another tattoo question...
I'm thinking of getting a very small tattoo only in white ink...
Does anyone have a white ink tattoo/have any personal experience with them? I really would like some info, because I am hearing a lot of conflicting statements about them. do they hurt more? do they fade? etc

thanks

White does fade. I have a small flower and the petals were filled in with white - they faded within about year. I've never heard of all white tattoos - sounds really cool if it would last.

I have a white tiger on my left ankle, done with all white ink, except for the black stripes of course.

It does not hurt more because they are done just like any other tattoo, the only difference is the color of the ink that they use, so no it would not make the pain any more or less.

Fading: I have had my tattoo not even a year yet and the white has faded ALOT, it almost looks like it is just my skin tone. White ink was made for highlight, not for full coloring, so it fades very easily when used for a full tattoo.

EDIT: Also, the guy who did this tattoo warned me before he did it, that the white would fade very quickly but I went through with it anyway. He showed me a tattoo on his arm that he got 3 years ago, it was a pair of dice. He said they were filled in white too but now they are just his skin tone.

White ink fades incredibly quickly and hand tattoos aren't something that a reputable artist will do for anyone who just wanders in. My artist wouldn't tattoo my hands (I asked out of interest, not because I wanted him to) and I've already got a fair bit of ink that's visible as soon as I'm wearing short sleeves. If you find someone unprofessional enough to do it, and if their lack of professionalism doesn't result in an infection (it probably will): no, the aftercare is the same.

white ink wasn't meant to be used as a standalone color. you CAN get one but white by itself tends to yellow or brown. just like newspaper, it will look old and ugly after a while. white ink is meant to add hilites to a color tattoo but some artists will do all white tattoos. i'd never get one.
