When I was at MIT, a similar question was asked of Frank Lloyd Wright, who was a visiting lecturer, and he responded: "An architect uses an engineer the way an engineer uses a sliderule." Replace engineer by scientist and sliderule by computer, and you've got it.

they use the science of physics mostly, which is all about mathematically figuring out how their building would be structurally strong/weak.
