No.. The breed gets a bad press but usually it is the owners who are to blame through either ignorance or arrogance. Insisting on registering and training would be more beneficial than an all out ban. Also banning a breed just makes it more attractive to a certain group of irresponsible individuals.

The overwhelming vote is No. I vote the same way. As for males being the majority of the owners, think again. Most of the no votes came from females who own the dogs. Most of the people I know that have Pits, Am Staffs, etc. are women and the dogs are treated/trained properly.
It's the gangsta wannabes that cause the problem. I guess they need something to replace the "manhood" they lost along the way.
I know 1 lady that has half a dozen Pits/Pits crosses. She has the upper hand with her dogs. She can walk into any local animal shelter, do a quick temperament test on a Pit, and walk out with the dog. Her reputation as a good owner/trainer precedes her.

no if they want to ban pitbulls then they need to ban every single breed that has ever been reported in a dog biting incident every dog breed will bite if provoked even small breeds if they would properly chart the dog attacks in the usa then they might realize that pitbulls are not on the top the top of the list as far as biting and attacks not to mention it's irresponsible dog owners some of the owners allow their children to be mean to their pitbulls and some owners are mean to these dogs as well and pitfighters should be put in prision to be taught a lesson
punish the deed not the breed

If Pit Bulls are banned, the people who want to look macho and fight dogs and mistreat them will simply choose another breed. Next it will be Rottweilers, or Cane Corso, or Bullmastiffs. Pit Bulls are not the only breed with dog aggressiveness as an inherent trait, nor are they the only breed large enough to inflict damage on other dogs or people.
Should we just outlaw any dog over 30 lbs. just to be safe? Of course not!

A possible alternative is to require education to own and register a dog just like to get a driver's license. Require owners of dogs over 6 months to show proof of a basic obedience class or have the dog demonstrate the ability to pass a basic obedience test. The owner should also have to pass a written test on dog ownership and local dog laws. Then the dog can be registered in the city.

No, and this shouldn't even be a question. I'm not knocking your question, because I have heard it asked before, I just feel that people who think they should be banned are completely misguided about the facts. Pitbulls are one of the greatest dogs you can have (assuming they are trained properly). They are incredible companions and so smart. Unfortunately, I think it has gotten to the point where Pitbull owners need to be licensed or their dog needs to be trained prior to them getting the dog. It is unfortunate, but if this were implemented, pitbull maulings would be abolished.

HELL NO!!! Pit bulls are wonderful dogs if they are treated right, raised right, and loved. The only thing that needs to be banned is BSL and all the irresponsible pit owners. We as a society need to be more educated about this breed and stop stereotyping these animals. I have a two year old female and she is my best friend and she loves my 10 month old son. Besides they are not going to get banned and if they did I just wouldn't care. I will always own a pit bull due to their loyalty and their love.

No but I would like to have a mandatory spay/ neuter for a few years and for people breeding these dogs with a permit only. Unlicensed, unaltered pitbulls owners should be fined.

Take a trip to an animal shelter and you will see why. These animals are flooding the the shelters. Responsible ownership and breeding are desperately needed to save this dog breed!

I do not think some types of dogs should be banned, but I do think some types of owners should be.
I notice from television programmes I have watched, that a lot of pit bulls are owned by young (not being racist honest) black men, who seem to look on the Pit Bull as some sort of status symbol, and train them to be as aggressive as themselves. I think responsible owners should be allowed to keep the dogs, and irresponsible ones should be banned from owning any pets.

I own a pit bull mix and have worked at a vet for 3 years. My dog is obedience trained and a great dog but I have also seen and met plenty of bad, bad pits and mixes. I feel that restrictions, such as stricter licenses and maybe a small tax would deter bad owners from getting a hold of these dogs and making them bad.

I know you wanted a black and white yes or no.. but I can't just lean one way or the other! :)

No. Pitbull ownership tests should be required for people who want to own them. People who fail should then be banned from the US.
