Uhhhhh ..... YES.
Pot is illegal, and if the roommate happens to hang out with the wrong crowd, that just happens to be a target for the police, then you and the roommate stand to lose everything -- and I mean everything.
Different countries, even different states within the U.S., place punishment of possession based on how much is found in their residence or on their person. Why would anyone who does NOT smoke pot put themselves into, or allow themselves to be into, a situtation where they could lose not only every material possession but also their freedom, because some stupid roommate chose to smoke pot?
The lackadaisical attitude of the majority of today's youth towards pot amazes me, even though they know the risks involved. Most view pot and those who smoke it as something simply recreational and inconsequential. I suppose our society's requirement for "tolerance" has perpetuated this way of thinking.
Wake up people! Pot is illegal. When you get arrested, are you going to cry, "I didn't know!"
Yeah ..... right!

Smoking pot is not a big deal at all unless this person is doing it in front of your house saying..."oh im so stoned", a lot of people smoke pot old people young people gay people straight people goths preppys everyone smokes. If you do think it is a problem though just sit down and talk to them maybe they even are smoking for a good reason like it helps with headaches or depression or nausea. But mainly smoking pot is not a big deal.

Bringing someone into your home that does drugs can be a very big deal. It doesn't matter if they do it there. Many years ago when I was young I had a roommate that did drugs and it got her killed. She never did them in our apartment but the contacts she had were not nice people. It got her dead. Thankfully, not me as well just for living with her. Think twice about your roommate.

It depends on a lot of factors. One in three people has at least tried pot- so it's maybe not something you should flip out about. But there are many things to be taken into account.
If they're really careless about it, you've got to watch out for yourself. If the cops come over, you'll get busted, too, so you've got to make sure that they don't keep large amounts of it. If they have a tiny bit in their sock drawer, they'll probably only get fined and you can deny knowledge. If you're in a college dorm, will you both get expelled?
You'll want to make sure they don't have large amounts of people over to indulge with them. I hate to say this, i really do, but the more people are over, the harder it will be to keep it under wraps, and the more likely one of them is to be stupid about it, or dishonest in general. You're already talking about people who are willing to break the law, and to be honest- most of us are. (oh come on, guys, how many of you waited to be 21 before even TRYING alcohol?) You've got to find out where your roommate draws the line.
If you are good friends with your roommate, you won't want to alienate them by being overly dramatic about what is honestly not the worst of legal offenses. However, you might want to talk to them about your concerns, and you might want to express your concern for them if they do a great deal of it. It's just not as good for you as a lot of people seem to think it is. Just because it's all natural doesn't mean it is GOOD for you, especially out of moderation.
Bottom line though- how comfortable are YOU with it? What are your concerns? It doesn't matter what i think, because you're the one who lives there.

As long as they didn't smoke it in the apartment, and as long as it didn't affect their ability to pay rent/utilities/buy groceries (or whatever arrangement you have) because they lose their job, I'd say no. If they get fired for failing a drug test or calling off/constantly showing up late because they're high, or if he/she smokes in the apartment, I'd have a HUGE problem with that.

It puts you at a small legal risk if he gets busted, but that's not likely to cause you legal problems. However, if he's supporting his habit by dealing on the side, that is a big deal and you want to get out from under ASAP.

not if she does it out of the home. You'd be surprised how many people do it even though i've never done it. if she does it a lot then yeah it's a big deal. if you want to talk to her/him about it, then talk. but she's probably going to keep on doing it.

Uh, YEAH, since it's illegal! If, for some reason, your apartment or dorm was searched, they wouldn't care WHOSE stash it was, and you'd have to spend some serious time and/or money getting yourself out of something that isn't even your fault.
I don't care if they smoke pot -- that's their business -- but since you apparently object to it, I think it's reasonable to ask that they don't smoke in your shared space!

It is a big deal if it bothers you. Drug use is a deal breaker if you don't like it. If that's the case you need to let them know they need to find another place to live and you will find another roomate.
