Leadership and proper interaction with people are the major qualifications for being a police officer. Thus, a shy nerd will not become an effective police officer. He must be assigned at jobs where his talent is best applicable.

Only if you have a desk job. You will not survive as a street cop. You have no people or social skills and are shy, you and your partner would be a sitting duck.
