My boss flies in and out of our office at all times of the day. Most of the time we aren't even sure where he is. On top of that I have work to do and can't hunt him down to ask him for a raise. All of my coworkers and I have been trying to figure out how we could ask him for a raise and in the mean time none of us have gotten one because it is just too wierd.
I have even tried calling him up on his cell phone a couple of times with the intention of asking for a raise or to ask when a good time to talk about a raise would be. He is instantly off about some client and before I know it he has to go. Click.
I deserve the raise, there is no doubt. I haven't had a raise in almost 2 years. The last raise I got was insultingly small. I just need advice as to how to broach the subject and how to keep my cool. How not to chicken out. Advice like for public speaking (what do I do if I start out but then feel like passing out)?

I really don't want to do it over the phone, I just set a deadline which expired and I needed to get it done. It didn't work anyway.

Call and leave a message, or e-mail him, about setting up a special one-on-one meeting.

Ask him then.

If you know you deserve a raise, he probably does too. Just go for what you want.

Good luck.

Set up a meeting. Leave a message by phone or email that you would like to set a specific time & date for a meeting. It is not necessary to explain why. Just that it is very important to you.
