Kind of strange since baptism is nothing more than the outward (visible) sign that you have accepted the contract of becoming a follower of Jesus.

No, I don't think that it's wierd. I also don't think that it's necessary for your baptism to be watched by a "bunch of people". I have been reading what the scriptures have to say about this, and I encourage you to do the same. So far, I see nothing about witnesses to baptism. But, since there are usually 2 witnesses at least to a wedding... I would have a few people there, like your close family, or some of your sisters in Christ.
And if I missed something in the Bible somewhere, please, let me know! I am soon to be baptized too.

I'm a pretty shy person as well and I was SO nervous about giving my testimony in front of everyone at my baptism but I did it and i'm glad my (non-Christian) family was there to see it.
Seriously, I'm not saying how you feel is wrong but baptism is supposed to be a public way of showing people that you've become a follower of Jesus.
Ask God to give you strength and remember that "perfect love casts out all fear". Congratulations on decideing to get baptised by the way!
God bless

The original definition of weird is demonic. Is it demonic that you don't wanna be watched? Only you and possibly your family and pastor would know. But I doubt it.
Baptism is a confession of your faith see here:
1 Pet 3: NKJV
21 There is also an antitype which now saves us--baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
As we see the conscience is involved. The baptism into water does not remove the sin, but is a symbolic act of the regeneration the believer. Thus, it is an act of faith done toward God, but also as a confession before men.

Baptism is your public testimony that you are going to follow Jesus.
It would be like making a speech to as few people as possible, why bother..
It is not weird, but not the way to be baptized. People will congratulate you because they are happy for you and you have made a positive step in your life. You are just reacting to your own shyness and you need to conquer it
Being a Christian is something that we live daily and people will be watching you.. You need to get used to it..

I can understand this because when I got baptized, it was in front of the church with about 150 people in attendance AND streaming live all over the world! The thing was my clothes clinging to me afterwards. My breasts are on the large side so I wasn't so thrilled with all eyes on me but I was so happy to take the dip that I didn't concentrate on it too much. It'll be alright.

I can understand why you would not want a lot of people watching you if you're shy. I can also understand your humility of not wanting to draw attention to yourself, but think of it this way, you are not alone when you are being baptized, Jesus is right there with you. He is SO proud of you and He promised to always be with His children! God bless you, I wish I could be there to enjoy your happy day!!!

I don't see as being wrong but in most modern churches a baptismal is usually pretty discrete which only your shoulders may be seen and a room for changing right beside it.
Being baptized should be seen as a honor and a memorable moment.

well, I can understand being shy but, you are being baptized into the body of Christ (if this is a Catholic baptism) and as such the other members of the body have a right to see who they are in the body with--do you understand---one helps the other we are all incorporated into the body of Christ and you should not want to feel all separate

Baptism is a person standing before this world and saying: I am a new person from this day forward the old ways are no longer my ways and I shall from this time on live for Christ and my beliefs!
