I may be wrong to assume this, but I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that your financial situation is tight and taking this cat to the vet is a strain right now. I can help you with that if that's the case...and yes, a vet is the only one who can get you the medication you need to rid your cat of worms. Now let me tell you how to do this smart..and show you how to use the resources available to you.
Call your local chapter of the SPCA and tell them you've taken in a STRAY cat. They will gladly provide you with a certificate for a "well baby" check-up. You won't have to pay the office visit, only the medications your cat needs. Drontal, which is the best thing available for worms, in my opinion, is going to cost you about $8.00.
If you need shots...check your local paper or ask the SPCA in your area where and when there is a "rabies" clinic. Shots typically run you about $10.00 to $14.00 at a rabies clinc.
If your cat isn't spayed or neutered the SPCA will give you a certificate for discounted rates to have your pet fixed.
Just wanted to let you know you have options and that there's help available. :)

There are NO home remedies. GO TO THE VET!! Take a fecal sample too....there may be parasites other than rounds.

Piprazine and ALL HARTZ products SUCK and have made many animals SICK!!!!! If you MUST use OTC roundwormer, use one that is PYRANTEL PAMOATE. A LOT safe and is what the vet will give you.

"Piperazine" is ingredient in pet store over counter roundworm medicine. "Hartz" brand, can buy most places.
Any other type of worms you nd. from vet. So be sure the type of worms pet has.
Olden days it was thought that raw garlic will cure wormsl also a pinch of tobacco! Would NOT trust that folklore though.

No, see a doctor - of course a doctor will treat you. The main treatments for worms are prescription only so you have to see a doctor - you get some real idiots on here say not to see a doctor!
