Get this, it was a family in a Dodge Caravan, and the other driver was in a church van who was apparently drunk, because he was arrested at the scene and smiled as he was hand cuffed and taken away.
He crossed the medium and hit this van causing the van to spin around killing the passenger and the driver was bleeding from the head. Probably won't survive.

Someone tell me as to WHY most states are not tough at all with DUI or DWI?? There has to be tougher laws, something!!
1st offense, what? A slap with a hefty fine and they go free??

Why must this happen time and time again, and some are repeat offenders!

Here is an inocent family and now their world has been torn apart.

Hey I like Rych's idea in their country.
Maybe the United States should do that.

We have weak punishments for DUI because so many do it. The same guys and gals in charge of creating and maintaining of our laws are drunk drivers.

Burglars and thieves take our things, drunk drivers take our limbs and lives.

Many of our lawmakers have DUI/DWI convictions so it's hard to get them to get tough on this. Plus with as many drunk drivers as there are out there, they are a serious voting block. While no politician would ever say they are courting the drunk driver vote, none want to tick them off either.
I attend DAMM (Drunks Against Mad Mothers) meetings (DWI related traffic accidents) a couple of times a week and sad thing is the innocent parties are the ones killed, instead of the drunk drivers.

The laws are getting stricter. But it usually is a misdemeanor for a first time DUI/DWI. But if someone kills one or more victims while intoxicated, they can go to prison for manslaughter, or murder of course.

If you are going to drink, do so at home. If you go to a bar, take a cab to the bar and take a cab home. Plan ahead, and don't drink if you loose control.

In New Zealand they are pretty tough on it. You loose your car for a month, your licence for 9 months and a fairly sizable fine.
