What you have explained has been prophesised in scripture. There will be a secular one world government with a promise of peace for the entire world. However, it is not truly for peace but to turn people against the Lord.
Currently we have the EU for most of Europe. We will have the NAU for North America (CAN, US, MEX) by about 2010 and they are working on a pan Asia union for the Asias. Then of course the UN. If the Sea treaty passes senate this year the UN will own 71% of the earth. So we are gradually combining everyone to a one world government.

"Democracy is two wolves and a sheep deciding what's for dinner." -RAH
It's a nice thought, but it doesn't work. In democracy, if 51% of the people decide the other 49% should die, then that's what is supposed to happen. In a republic, like the United States of America was intended to be, the people are protected by laws that allow them to defend themselves from tyranny--even a tyrrany of the majority--and that severely restrict the power of government. In the real world, democracy is just as dangerous as totalitarianism. Perhaps even more so, because the IQ of the mob is inversely proportional to its volume.

A direct democracy on such a large scale would clearly be impossible. A democratic republic would be better, especially if we has speedy and efficient vote-counting techniques. And a secular government would be unbelievably wonderful.
I doubt it's possible, though, at least within our lifetimes.

one-world government? count me out...i have no desire to tell people in wheretheheckisstan how to handle their affairs, nor would i appreciate them telling me how to handle mine. the question of 'religion' aside, the differences in language, customs, and culture make the idea completely unworkable. i see a lot of posters seem to assume there would be NO religion; i don't see that in your question. i also fail to see how one can 'choose' to put aside their religious or spiritual beliefs aside...what one believes has a profound impact on one's entire outlook. a 'religious test' is one thing-and our founding fathers wisely prohibited that in our constitution...but how can you expect people to 'vote their conscience' without any influence from their belief system? that would be like telling someone to not see out of half of each eye! or is it that you'd like to have everyone base their decisions as if they believed NOTHING? that sounds suspiciously like 'groupthink' and 'thought control'...which cannot be reconciled with democracy...they do, however, fit nicely into a totalitarian state

That is a wonderful dream.
However a democracy is based in Biblical principles and will not work without believers.
You can see the truth of this right here in America.
The more society leans to the left, the more freedoms we lose.

I believe in secularism, but not so much in democracy. I simply do not believe that all opinions should be weighted the same.

and a dream it will remain unfortunately.
Even though it does contradict most things I believe, sometimes I think there should be a test before people can vote. I understand sometimes why the founding fathers feared the uninformed masses voting.

It won't happen because some are just hopeless without their God(s) and their religion influences the policies they vote for.

Totally disagree. The best system we can attain would be a secular republic. Democracy is a detestable system.

It will be very nice and I believe we will get there one day. A world wide government run by people who are able to unite because only without religion, all men (and women) are equal.
