You didn’t say where you’re from, but very few people in the US are anti-immigration. The problem is that many immigrants are coming into the country illegally from our northern and southern border. All nations have a responsibility to protect its borders, but if law enforcement looks the other way and doesn’t pursue the illegals then your government is not protecting you. Your jobs are in jeopardy, drugs get smuggled into the country, all sorts of criminal elements come into the country, economic pressure is put on tax payers because of free health benefits, free education, welfare payments, social security payments (that they never worked for), food stamps, the list goes on and on.
Here in New York we have a pinhead for a governor who just granted illegals the right to have drivers licenses – he should be impeached, what an idiot. Once you have a drivers license in the US you can damn hear do anything you please. More often than not a drivers license is your form of identification, and with 9-11 still a raw nerve for this country people tend to be very leery about who comes into the country, and for what reason. I’m sure you can image every jihadist in the world salivating over the ease in which entry into my country is possible.
Take a look at other countries that have liberal, or minimal immigration laws. France is a good example. Today nearly 20% of the French population are from the middle east – most of which are illeagal. It is estimated that by 2030 the French population will be almost 50% non French born, and the religion will shift from one of the Christian religions to Islam. The same can be said as you go into northern Europe Belgium, Holland, Denmark, Norway, and Finland. Leaders of countries (all countries) seem to be interested in what is politically expedient for themselves instead of looking out for their people.
You mentioned most US citizens were originally immigrants. That is true, but when my parents came here they were legal, and so were virtually all immigrants who came to the US since before the turn of the century.
Wise-up. If you don’t live in the US take a look at your own country, and think about how much money, time and effort is spent caring, and pandering to people who refuse to speak your language, refuse to take part in the betterment of your society, demand inclusion into social and economic programs, and take jobs away from legal residence. Don’t fall for the line that they use here in the US - that the illegals are only doing what Americans won’t do – what a bunch of crap. More often than not you’ll find illegals on almost every construction site in the world, and here in the US construction workers are some of the highest paid blue collar workers in our country. Allowing an illegal immigrant to hold any kind of employment without being documented is a travesty.

I don't believe the issue is with immigration. The issue lies with the illegal actions taken by men and women who come into this country without going through the legal system. when they come into the country in this way, they are not immigrating. They then are not taxed, so the nation looses money. They export money to other nations, again the nation (people and government) loose money. They do not then have social security, so when they are suddenly in need the money must then come from legal citizens. Many do not become aclimated to life in the states, many do end up in gangs and criminal activity. Law enforcement then struggles to keep track of them. There are many reasons why Americans are against, not immigration but, illegal alians. I do think there needs to be a more efficiant way for immigrants to come into the country, not easier but more timely.

Well... I'm an immigrant and I sort of (on some issues) feel a lot like most people. That is to say, I am NOT ok with illegal immigration of any kind and of any race/nationality. See, I had to pay for my green card, my passport, my interview, my plane ticket, etc. All of those taxes and that high cost (which it was high) assured that I will work hard and pay it back and that I really do want to be AMERICAN= democracy in which the ruled have the right to participate in government and to overthrow a tyrannical ruler as long as they allow to BE governed and to follow a concept/laws/rules. When you're illegal you can't really do that because you can't vote, participate in senate, write to your local representative, be taxed and pay fines/fees in order for your community to stay renovated/strong/and in order for your local senators to work for you. You also do not have a social security number or a health card (health plan) so IF something were to happen to you, you would solely depend and lay upon the country for support.
In the past, illegals would get treatment in the hospital and leave without paying... sort of like doing a walk out in a restaurant. I've heard that today they have tightened the rules and that nurses and so on do extensive background checks before they let anyone just walk out.
Bottom line for ME is: I have no problem with immigrant since I am an immigrant but I DO have a problem with illegal immigrants because they do not want to assimilate with the American culture or fit in, as they even admit it, but more like milk the cow and leave with the goodies which represents America as this land with money growing trees where anyone at any time can come, pick the fruit, and pay little price. What do these people leave for the next generation? How do you feel when it comes out of YOUR pocket to pay for Medicare for someone who refuses to register as a USA citizen?
It's a complicated issue and some measurements need be taken and things aren't always black and white (ex. it's not ALWAYS your pocket but most likely it is).

Most legal Americans can live with immigration. Its the illegal immigration that we can't stand and the sorry politicians who try to force amnesty on the public. The majority of Americans don't want it yet the politicians try to force it down our throats.

basically because of the fact we want the guidelines enforced, would not make it anti-immigrant, and basically the uneducated could say that's so. that's anti-unlawful extraterrestrial beings. My ancestors weren't immigrants, yet have been captured and used as slaves. basically like supporters of unlawful extraterrestrial beings forget approximately what mexico did to the southwest and the yank Indians who lived there. And people who they made slaves out of. Or murdered, stole the land they inhabited. basically yet another lame excuse that holds no benefit. His father died at an early age and the greater youthful Goyathlay took on the duty of looking after his mom. on the age of 17, he grow to be admitted to the Council of the infantrymen. Some of my ancestors were Native Americans, but even they immigrated. The rest of my ancestry was here in the 1700's. I am not against legal immigration but I detest border hoppers with a self entitlement issue that we should pay for their lives. In my ancestors day, you worked or you died, no food stamps, no welfare or free hospitals, there were none. Every person I know hates illegals and with very good reason. Blood sucking cowards from other nations with no pride in themselves trying to prey on our success. Go home now illegals or be deported. Your time is over!

My grandparents were immigrants from France.
They were never servants. My grandfather was 20 years older than my grandmother, and he owned a pool hall.
By the time I was born and raised, there was a lot of open spaces. There was very little crime, and in fact, if there was a break-in, it was front-page news.
We are becoming over-crowded, and we are having areas of drought. Our natural resources are becoming depleted.
When I was growing up, The United States were appalled by Russia and how many family members had to live in one-room apartments and the thought of Communism horrified us.
The more crowded we become, the more limited our housing is. More and more apartment buildings are going up.
At what point may we say "enough"???
We have over-crowded schools, our welfare systems are stretched to the limit, we have homeless people, we have more crime, we have traffic congestion, water shortages, housing problems and pets no one can care for--apartment owners would rather see pets being killed than in protected homes!!! At what point is enough, well, ENOUGH!!!???
Good luck and may God bless you.

Americans are not anti immigrant. We are anti people sneaking over our borders, in defiance of our laws and then working in defiance of our laws. My relatives came here legally. They followed the laws, got medically cleared, paid taxes and learned english. They worked hard (there was no welfare, medicaire etc) and made a better life. When they dies, they where buried here. Why? Becuase this is where their heart was, not back in the country they left, unlike today. Most illegals have no love for america. They want to rape what they can and then return home. They are not "immigrants" They are like evry other criminal...out to make a buck, regardless of who it hurts or what laws they have to break to get it.

You don't mean "anti-immigration" you mean "anti-illegal immigration". It's very easy. We don't like criminals.
Now, how do YOU justify being so purposefully deceitful? Don't you think that is rather manipulative and definitely disingenuous?
Americans aren't against immigration. The vast, vast majority of Americans are for LEGAL immigration.

Yes most of Americans are oppossed to illegal immigration, and our government is doing nothing about it. Every country has quotas and we should uphold ours, no one has a right to come here illegally. And most Americans are for legal immigration. That is a huge difference.
