I have heard this preached by various preachers all of life but I have actually found no mention of this any where within the Holy Bible. Just wondering if this has been some scenerio drawn up by preachers over the centuries or if I have actually missed something here with this.

no. suicide is a sin, just like any other. When God saves someone He forgives all their sins and no man, even a suicide, can snatch someone out of God's hands (see John 10:28). Also, suicide is unique in that often it is not a sin, but due to a mental illness or servere depression.

There is always hope, even for the soul of one who commits this act. Here is a complete study on the subject:

I. Brought on by:

Life's weariness

"Am I a sea, or a whale, that thou settest a watch over me? When I say, My bed shall comfort me, my couch shall ease my complaint; Then thou scarest me with dreams, and terrifiest me through visions: So that my soul chooseth strangling, and death rather than my life. I loathe it; I would not live alway: let me alone; for my days are vanity. What is man, that thou shouldest magnify him? and that thou shouldest set thine heart upon him? And that thou shouldest visit him every morning, and try him every moment? How long wilt thou not depart from me, nor let me alone till I swallow down my spittle? I have sinned; what shall I do unto thee, O thou preserver of men? why hast thou set me as a mark against thee, so that I am a burden to myself? And why dost thou not pardon my transgression, and take away mine iniquity? for now shall I sleep in the dust; and thou shalt seek me in the morning, but I shall not be." (Job 7:12-21). .

Life's futility

"Therefore I hated life; because the work that is wrought under the sun is grievous unto me: for all is vanity and vexation of spirit." (Ecclesiastes 2:17).

Anger

"And it came to pass, when the sun did arise, that God prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah, that he fainted, and wished in himself to die, and said, It is better for me to die than to live. And God said to Jonah, Doest thou well to be angry for the gourd? And he said, I do well to be angry, even unto death." (Jonah 4:8,9).

Hoplessness

"Howbeit the hair of his head began to grow again after he was shaven. Then the lords of the Philistines gathered them together for to offer a great sacrifice unto Dagon their god, and to rejoice: for they said, Our god hath delivered Samson our enemy into our hand. And when the people saw him, they praised their god: for they said, Our god hath delivered into our hands our enemy, and the destroyer of our country, which slew many of us. And it came to pass, when their hearts were merry, that they said, Call for Samson, that he may make us sport. And they called for Samson out of the prison house; and he made them sport: and they set him between the pillars. And Samson said unto the lad that held him by the hand, Suffer me that I may feel the pillars whereupon the house standeth, that I may lean upon them. Now the house was full of men and women; and all the lords of the Philistines were there; and there were upon the roof about three thousand men and women, that beheld while Samson made sport. And Samson called unto the LORD, and said, O Lord GOD, remember me, I pray thee, and strengthen me, I pray thee, only this once, O God, that I may be at once avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes. And Samson took hold of the two middle pillars upon which the house stood, and on which it was borne up, of the one with his right hand, and of the other with his left. And Samson said, Let me die with the Philistines. And he bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell upon the lords, and upon all the people that were therein. So the dead which he slew at his death were more than they which he slew in his life." (Judges 16:22-30).

Sin

"And it came to pass, when Zimri saw that the city was taken, that he went into the palace of the king's house, and burnt the king's house over him with fire, and died, For his sins which he sinned in doing evil in the sight of the LORD, in walking in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin which he did, to make Israel to sin." (1 Kings 16:18,19).

Disappointment:

"And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his ***, and arose, and gat him home to his house, to his city, and put his household in order, and hanged himself, and died, and was buried in the sepulchre of his father." (2 Samuel 17:23).

Betrayal of Jesus:

"When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death: And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor. Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that. And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself. And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood. And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in. Wherefore that field was called, The field of blood, unto this day. Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value; And gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord appointed me." (Matthew 27:1-10).

II. New Testament References:

Desired by some:

"And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them." (Revelation 9:6). .

Attempted but prevented:

"And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled. But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here. Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas, And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house. And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway. And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house." (Acts 16:27-32).

Imputed to Christ:

"Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come. Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come. And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world." (John 8:21-23).

satan tempts Jesus to:

"And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence: For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee: And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God." (Luke 4:9-12)

III. Principles concerning:

The body is sacred

"What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice. For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death." (Philippians 1:18-20). .

Jesus has made His children priests:

"And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen." (Revelation 1:6).

Keep the faith:

"But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry. For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing." (2 Timothy 4:5-8).

The scripture by no means says that folks who commit suicide go to hell. That is a educating from the catholic church that they base on the concept that it's fallacious to kill headquartered on other scriptures. First onteh suicide issue. In excessive tuition I had a godo pal commit suicide after a breif tramatic health problem and mentioned it with a ninety y/o preacher who defined it this fashion. To him it made sense that a loving God who would sacrafice his son to pay for our wrongs like the scripture demonstrates does not send harmless individuals to hell for moves taken when they are insane or incapacitated mentally- God created people with an amazing insitct to do what ever it takes to reside, to survive etc. If a person has become so mentally disturbed that that average God given intuition is no longer functioning then that person has no responsibilty for his movements. In other words as a rule simplest mentally ill men and women who will not be responsible for their actions commit suicide- there is also some who do it to flee punishment however they are the exception. Now as to do not kill - the better term/traslation and actual phrase used in hebrew is don't homicide. The circumstances stated above aren't homicide ( to purposfully and willfully deprive the lifetime of the innocent with out motive or justification). Scripture is clear that the killing of animals for our use is suitable- that war is suitable if justified, that weeds and different crops, animals usually are not created in his image thus are reside within the same approach we're- it is not the taking of innocnent existence etc. If that had been the case what would we consume? Even to decide upon an apple and consume it kills it! Hope that helps

It is actually a Catholic doctrine, but not taught anywhere in the Bible. If you reason it out it proves to be an impossible doctrine. The idea is that if you commit suicide then the last act you committed was a sin and since you have no time to confess it you will go to Hell. That is ridiculous! that would mean that the last thing everyone who goes to heaven would have to do before they die is confess all their sins to God. It just doesn't happen.

Yes and no. First one must define "hell" to understand this. Hell is not a place, as depicted on TV. Hell is a state to which we all shall go when we die. Jesus went to "hell" for three days and returned. He was dead and brought back to life.

People have watched too many "Exorcists" sequels and have been taught that "hell" is a place that Satan rules and uses to torture people. Even though Rev 12:9 specifically states that Satan was cast to Earth, not to "hell".

The question is "Will those who commit suicide be forgiven by God?" The answer is "Only God knows"... If I had to wager (which I do not) I would say it will be taken on a case-by-case basis as no one knows the mental characteristics or circumstances of a person that does so. Beyond this I do not begin to claim to speak for God or to know His views on all things.

Hi, Delores:

The Bible tells us to not love our lives unto death, and Jesus told the disciples they would die for Him. That is a form of suicide.

But for people like Judas, who lived their lives for Satan, and when he sets the final trap, there will be no salvation for them.

Notice that I didn't say they'd go to Hell. Hell is really the grave, and everyone goes there, but Jesus said there would be two resurrections. One will have eternal life, the other eternal death, yes, there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, but it won't be forever as the wages of sin is death.

NO. That is nowhere in the Bible. It is people's personal opinions about it. We get saved by the mercy and grace God.

whether a person commits suicide isn't what determines whether he or she gains entrance into heaven. if an unsaved person commits suicide, he or she has done nothing but “expedite” his or her journey to the lake of fire. however, the person who committed suicide will ultimately be in hell for rejecting salvation through Christ, not because he or she committed suicide

I have studied...

I can't find one at all

The people that kill themselves have a problem and they can't be truly blamed for their mistake. They that that they are doing the right thing.

"Thou shalt not kill." It's a huge umbrella, really, but, nonetheless, it does not say WHAT you shouldn't kill, but, apparently, 'tis a sin no matter what.

So do you go to "hell" for killing a fly?
