Religion begins when somebody decides they have found the best way to make up mind about self and world and go about the business of sharing that way with others. Atheism is a religion in as much as some atheists claim to have found the best way to make up mind about self and world and go about the business of sharing this way with others.

Atheism is by definition a lack of belief in God. Most religions revolve around belief in God, so an atheist can't really believe in a religion. Belief in God but not religion is generally classified as deism, and people who attend church services but don't believe in God are just closeted atheists.

By definition, to be an atheist you have to lack belief in gods. Some atheists also have a dislike for religion or for organized religion, but that's all pretty much up to the individual atheist.

I also think of religion and God as different things.

I am a religious humanist. I don't believe in god. I am an active member of a Unitarian Universalist church which does not require members to adhere to a set creed.

I see a relgion as an organized community of people who share common values and who work together on finding answers to the great questions of life.

Atheists don't believe in the existence of a higher power or deity. Generally speaking, this eliminates most religions, too. Though religion and a deity are not one and the same, they are -- in general -- a package deal. It's rare to find one without the other.

I am an atheist, which mean I don't believe in God... I do not oppose to believing in God, since it helps people, but religions exists, I believe in them, I do not agree to them, unfortunatly, they are the downfall of society. I am also a Pagan... I believe in the force of Nature... they are pretty real...

Yes, I believe in religion. You can drive down the street and see churches at every corner. Religion is simply the organization of people that worship a particular god.

But I do not believe in the former.

Atheists don't believe in a god. Agnostics don't believe in religion (not that it doesn't exist, but choose not to accept human invented fallacies).

At a minimum they don't believe in God. Usually they don't believe in religion, but there are the occational atheists who are religious.

I believe there is an Episcopal bishop who is publicly an atheist, for example.
