The rule is if you can discreetly and quickly dislodge the food particle with your tongue, then do so --- if it requires you to put your fingers in your mouth, then it is polite to excuse yourself to attend to it.

I keep dental floss in my bag --- it comes in handy.

Any number of factors can be the cause of gum swelling. Some mango that are stuck in your teeth can cause bad breath and it can also lead some other problems like tooth decay on the root of your teeth. I would recommend you to consult with a dentist as early as you can.

If I can get rid of food in my teeth, no matter what the method, I would rather do that than talk and laugh with people with shredded meat dangling from my teeth. Gives a bad impression. I was rather mean to my Mom one night; we had just finished corned beef sandwiches at a local deli, and had almost as much meat in our teeth as there had been in the sandwiches, when a friend of hers came up and I said Mom, here's Al! So she had to turn around and talk to him and kept her hand in front of her mouth the whole time.

Gum always works for me. It sticks to it and pulls it right out of there and freshens post-lunch breath all at the same time. I keep a pack in my purse and in my desk for such emergencies. Sometimes it's just not the time or the place for floss.

Try to remove it with your tongue. I'd sooner use a serviette or fingers discreetly than talk to people with food on my teeth though.

Just suck at it with your tongue.
