I would say that yes--ego had a lot and still does have a lot to do with religion. Thankfully being a Christian does not have to involve religion--it is a loving relationship with God, the creator of life. Jesus Christ detested religion--one of the reasons the religious leaders of His time sought to destroy HIm; however, you can not destroy the Lord of the Universe as they learned.

I went off I think twice on this guy, then deleted my answer. Its simple to, he neglected nature vs nuture. He didn't once give credit to the fact that a human by himself would never find god on his own, NOR GIVE A CRAP!!!! RRRrrrrrr do people refuse to acknowledge the lessons learned from feral kiddos? Even freud acknowledge their was more then just an ego... That aside, the reasons for religion connects everything that makes us who we are, anyone brecking it down to one mental process doesn't understand how interdependent the system is. Which would be like me sitting here telling everyone that storms are caused by a differece in tempertures (look it up its more complicated then that), neglecting the other factors envolved. It was an interesting read, but shows me why compassion and understanding should be praticed. And the ego, dropped......;-) he forgot the super-ego and how the id play's in it even IF he was a Freudian..... which is dead...... that aside psychology is an interesting school of scince, which is why everyone stays away from it, generally when making assumptions about human behavior. Whose to say that religion isn't just conditioned behavior along with his skepticism? Nothing more then a learned behavior he develop in an effort to get more stuff form our parents then our siblings? See you can twist psychology all day. The point remains its deeper then most people give it credit for, case in point...... But thats my opinion, for most that was one heck of a read!!!!!!
