It's not sunny at 6 pm..the sun is already setting. I always wait until after dinner (about 6:30). If we go earlier, alot of neighbors aren't home from work yet.

Most parents with small children from the ages 2 to may be 3 or 4 yrs old might go out before dark because of bedtime routines. So I would start an hour before it gets dark outside. If you are someone who is just passing out candy, just start whenever they start. If you're someone who is going out trick or treating I would start right when it gets dark outside.
Over here in AZ, it gets dark at 6:30pm so I will start then because my son is only three years old.

We start about 6 and go to about 7:30. I think it just depends on what is best for your family. I don't think the kid will care much about the sunshine, as long as they are getting candy.

that's what I wanna know because I heard it starts at 5:00 pm. I plan on giving out candy this year since I have the day off. Last year I just made big treat bags for the family kids!

Check your newspaper. Sometimes your town might have times for trick or treating. They're all different around here, VA. Goodluck!
