If it's already widely known that she's into Dora, Diego, and Cars - and are worried about duplicate gifts, then get something completely different.
You can't go wrong with My Little Pony! (and the little ponies only cost around $5.00 a piece) There's SOOO many ponies to pick from, there's little chance she'll get the same one from someone else.

My daughter was super big into Dora/Diego too, and my mother-in-law got her a pony...she hasn't stopped playing with it for a year and a half!!

The gifts you suggested are good but this may also give you an idea. How about a wooden puzzle with only a few big pieces? It would be easy for a 3 year old to learn to do and make her proud of her accomplishment. Of course the first few times she may need a partner but she will get it.

My ladies like to have dolls, handbags, play jewelry, colour colorations. My little Pony, Dora the Explorer, Barbie, Disney Princess are all stable issues to look into for a newborn present.

kids love the "backpack" backpack from dora the explorer. try to get something useful as well. but not too expensive. young kids can't appreciate that kind of thing yet. tell her happy birthday!

I re-decorated my 3yr olds bedroom with princess everything. She outgrew Dora. She loves it. That was her birthday surprise. She shows everyone who comes into the house, her "Princess Room".

If you are worried about getting her the same gift as someone else, buy it online. Get her clothes, really cute ones that fit. It's always appreciated, where as toys can sometimes just take up more space.

Get her a birthday card and a gift card inside so she can pick her own gift.
