I'm a believer, but never listen to it. I find it very painful. I'd rather hear fingernails going across a chalkboard.

It's a choice. Just remember the GIGO rule: Garbage in, garbage out. Music (of any kind) is not inherently bad - but some of the lyrics are degrading and violent - so I would be careful of what the lyrics are saying. If they make you irritated, agitated, angry or make you feel like you are better than someone else, or encourage violence - they're putting junk in your brain.
So - your choice. Just one of many you will have to make in your lifetime. A good test for the music (and lyrics) - if you are a Christian - would you turn it on if Jesus walked into the room?
BTW - there's lots of rock n roll/alternative rock and metal Christian music out there.
God Bless!

No you don't HAVE to listen to christian music, to be a christian, if you know you have a special relationship with him than keep on the same path, people who think listening to that music will make them a better believer, has got it all wrong, its how you feel about your self. Some people only do things because it looks good to others or they want other people to believe they are real Christians and they are not, its all for show. If its doesn't move you than he wouldn't want you to listen to it anyway. I hope you understood all this?

Most Christians, but certainly not all, agree that alternative rock and metal will send your soul straight to hell.
Christians today are undecided about rock n roll , but almost all agree that Patsy Cline is good.
I'm a Christian and I'm listening to Cline as we speak.

Have to? Nope...never found that instruction in the bible though I will admit to hearing it once or twice from a preacher (at two churches I only attended a few times). The presets on my car radio are set to country, classic rock, and one Christian station. I mostly flip between the country stations.

One time I was asleep and angels came and sang into my spirit and it renewed me and since then I don't care for secular music,
there is absolutely no comparison, the sound is so heavenly, something there are no words to describe compared to earthly music, even church music unless it is totally by the Holy Spirit for me;
I believe if you are truly born again, you are a new creature and the things of this world are no longer desirable

And the harp, and the viol, the tabret, and pipe, and wine, are in their feasts: but they regard not the work of the Lord, neither consider the operation of his hands. Isaiah 5:12 kjv.
Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee. Isaiah 14:11 kjv.
Nebel (h5035) neh'-bel; or nebel nay'-bel; from 5034; a skin- bag for liquids (from collapsing when empty); hence a vase (as similar in shape when full); also a lyre (as having a body of like form): - bottle, pitcher, psaltery, vessel, viol.
Nabel (h5034) naw-bale'; a prim. root; to wilt; gen. to fall away, fail, faint; fig. to be foolish or (mor.) wicked; causat. to despise, disgrace: - disgrace, dishonour, lightly esteem, fade (away, - ing), fall (down, -ling, off), do foolishly, come to nought, * surely, make vile, wither.

Someone has said that all idolatry is self worship or it is the worship of another human. In the worship of music and musician it has been called "the idolatry of talent." The golden image is that which elevates any man or performer above their brethren.
NEBUCHADNEZZAR the king made an image of gold, whose height was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof six cubits: he set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon. Dan 3:1
That at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king hath set up: Daniel 3:5
End time worship will feature dancing, singers, instruments, speakers, clapping, dresses, chants, etc.
Hopefully, God won't punish the insane.

i always thought the same way, cause my dad is a pastor and everything so i thought that entitled me to do it, but i don't think God will send u to hell or anything, i try to stick to mostly Christian/Gospel but sometimes i get out to pop music or something, but if you want to stick to just christian try the music in christian, theres various categories in christian, like i like rock so i just listen to christian rock that way it glorifies the king!

Have you ever tried Southern Gospel music.
Ernie Hass and Signature Sound is a great quartet.
But to directly answer your question;
I'm a Christian Preacher that grew up in the fifties and sixties and I still listen to rock and roll.

No. You don't have to make your whole life about your religion. After all, Jews don't only listen to Jewish music.
Anyway, Christian rock is awful.
