I have a twelve year old cat thats is a my mum's. You can see and feel every bone! She is sick almost dayly. Is constantly hungry, desperate for food. We have given her worming tablets. If she lost anymore weight she would dissapear! Is doesnt seem to have lost any more weight recently, but isnt putting any on. I half her meals, giving her them at Four intervals in the day instead of two bigger ones. Thinking that shes getting old and her stomach carnt take alot of food. (I hope this works) I have noticed she has a few small scabs on the back of her neck, I dont know if this is related. She has had alot of bad diarria. We have stopped giving her milk and the diarria has stopped. My mum is worried, kind of says 'its just old age.' Everyone is saying that and has put of going to the vet, because in the past when we have went to the vet, our pets dont come back! She is Ok other than the fact that she is very skinny, is sick one time aday, every other day and is always despearate for food.

I can't believe you haven't taken this animal, which is clearly starving to death slowly under your care, to the vet. Would you rather she continue slow starvation, or find out what's wrong with her and whether anything can be done?
It could be something serious and she'd never come home, but it could be that you're letting this animal suffer for no reason.
Take her to the damned vet.

Cows milk is great food for a baby cow and it will give any animal diarrhea. Cats should not have milk.
TAKE HER TO THE VET. I noticed you are 12 years old. And if you Mom doesn't want to pay for the vet, maybe you can offer to work part time at the vet cleaning cages and walking the dogs to help pay for her check up. And the reason animals go to the vet and "don't come home" is because people wait so long taking them that they cannot be saved. And animal is like having another child when they are sick you take them for help....if you want until your child is extremely sick.....they don't always get well.
Sometimes your local ASPCA will help with the treatment if you Mom won't let you take it to the vets. Call them and ask.

This sounds very much as though she has a problem with her pancreas. She could have too much Folete. Only your vet can give an accurate diagnosis, but he should do a full blood work up and also test her faeces. You must get her there as soon as possible so it can be treated, this is not just old agge. Twelve is not really that old for a cat. l know of cats who live to 18 and 20.

Cats can live up to 24 years old. My cat is sick right now with a liver problem and also can't eat because I think he was eating the dog's food. One of the signs was the inside of his ears has turned yellow (jaundiced). Your cat sounds very sick to me and will either starve to death or could possibly have something that can easily be fixed by taking it to the vet. A vet will at least be able to tell you what is wrong and whether or not it can be helped.

The cat needs medical attenition she is sick. My parents also have an old cat 17 yr . She is also very skinny. They feed her seperatly from the other cat they have and leave food down alday for her. But she stays thin. They have been feeding her a mix of kitten chow and some wet food. I don't agree with the brand they are using but there is not talking them out of it. But she is just old the vet told my mom and dad that there is nothing wrong. But she doesn't constantly beg for food. Or have any other problems as far as messed up tummy and vometing.

Its time to step up and get the cat to the vet.
Many senior cats develop hyperthyroidism which is easily treated.
Signs of hyperthyroidism are but not limited to:
Ravenous appetite with weight loss
Poor hair coat/skin
Loose stool
excessive thirst
Call your vet and schedule an appointment. Your vet will recommend a senior blood panel that includes a T4 and do it.
Your cat will appreciate!

Take your cat to the vet as soon as possible. If your pets have not come back from the vet in the past, perhaps you have waited too long before you took them in.
She may have a hairball blockage that is making her sick, or she may have worms.
I have some elderly cats, ages 20, 15, and 14 who receive regular veterinary care and are still going strong.
Please take your cat in to the vet right away.

It sure sounds like hyperthyroidism to me. A vet needs to run a T-4. Medication corrects this just fine and if she doesn't get it she will die.
I treated my 15 yr old cat for the hyper-T. She lived to be 22 and 1/2! My 16 yr old cat was treated this year and he had gained back his weight and is feeling fine.
Please do what's necessary to help your poor suffering kitty. She can live healthy and happy for many more years.

Hi
12 isn't old and your cat can live well past 20
Most likely this sounds like hyper thyroid which can easily be treated with either pills or an iodine treatment which is kind of expensive but an immediate and total cure
The other possibility is diabetes if your cat is drinking and peeing excessively. Please go to the vets and get the bloodwork done
Please contact me if I am right so I can help you with diet which should be addressed

My cat had the same problem. He kept eating more and more but lost lots of weight. We took him to the vet and he said he had diabetes. It's common in older cats. He was put on special food to help him. Unfortunately soon after he had to be put down. He slept way too much and his weight didn't improve. I am not saying your cat will die it could be something different but please take him too the vet. It's for the best.
