my cat keeps peeing all over the house on rugs (mostly) and some furniture. we don't know how many times she has and we haven't caught her in the act yet. she is kind of high mantanice so we think it might be because the litter isn't always perfectly clean? she is fixed so it isn't spraying or whatever. she also has a history of going to the bathroom every where EXCEPT the litter box when shes lonely, but someones home every day except from 8:30-2:30. any suggestions on how to teach her to use the litter box again?

Kill the cat? Shut up! Sometimes there's a medical problem with animals (not just cats) that causes them to do this. It may be painful for her to urinate and she associates this pain with her litter box and therefore goes somewhere else to try to avoid the pain. (Of course this doesn't help so she just keeps trying other places. She doesn't understand.) Please take her to the vet first and tell him/her what is going on. That's the best place to start since they can't tell you what is wrong.
Second, you say she does this sometimes when she's lonely? I had one that shredded everything she could because she was lonely. We ended up getting her a "Cat movie" with all the gerbils, birds, fish, etc. It was an instant hit with her and keeps her entertained. Amazing how many times they'll watch that movie. She's just mesmerized by it. We have it so it will play over and over during the times we are gone. No more shredding. Of course, she has her sparkle balls and cat tree to entertain her as well and when we do get home she gets to chase the laser. But, keep in mind she's not spoiled at all. lol
Please don't just throw her outside. She looks to you to "fix" whatever is wrong and trusts you.
Okay, now we know there's another cat. You need another litter box. Sometimes cats don't like to use a "community" litter box. AND, I had trouble at one time with another cat ambushing any cat that was in a litter box. So, if that's going on she won't use the litter box. Try putting another litter box in another room that's out of the way. Cats are big on privacy too. We knew a siamese that would scream at you if you looked at her while she was in the potty.

If she hasn't been doing this all her life, and has suddenly started to pee everywhere but the litter box, her problem may be more than the lack of a pristine litter box. Maybe you should have her checked by the vet, as she could have some kind of kidney or urinary problem. Cats are usually fastidious, and don't make messes unless there's something wrong with them physically. Do have kitty checked for a possible problem. If everything is okay, you might ask your vet for suggestions on encouraging her to use her litter box. Sometimes, changing the litter from the coarse kind, to a softer, sand-like litter can help. Some cats have very sensitive paws, and that might be her problem. Good luck!

Last year my beautiful Manx cat Theodore went out for the evening and never came back. I love cats and the house didn't feel the same without one, so I picked up Lola from a rescue centre. She was very frightened and would pee all over the house. I found Cat Spraying No More on the internet and the techniques worked almost immediately. I haven't had a problem with Lola since. Amazing!
Can't stop your cat peeing in the house? Then worry no more...

First off, I must disclaim that I love cats, have 5 males, and no pee problems.
I would lock the cat in a cage with the litter box so that if she pees not in the box, she has to sit in it. Keep her there for about 1 week away from the common area of the house. See if that works. Pee problems lead many people to give cats away or put them down. A week in a cage will be more humane than those options.
Meanwhile, use lightly diluted white vinegar to clean pee spots in your house and destroy the odor (so she doesn't re-pee those spots).

Purr's & Greetings,
You need more than ONE litter box I have heard it's best to have two litter boxes to a cat....I have three cats and have 3 litter boxes...one is on the deck and the other is under a huge desk and the other is in our extra bathroom.
Also a visit to the vet to rule out medical troubles too.
different cat litter may be the solution too....some cats need a larger litter box....
some want a litter box with a cover on it...
many options..are there keep trying.....
also I wasn't sure if the rug or carpets could they be tosed in the laundry sometimes there maybe a scent of urine there that we humans miss....just a thought...
I have after cleaning up potty messes we babysat a kitten here this summer I used vingar to clean also that may help too...
I once heard that the smell of ammonia cleaner is kind of like cat urine scent I could be way off too so I am just using my wee brain here...
that or maybe kitty is mad about her house mates...
We have a high matience kitty too....and two that are laid back....
the high maintance one is in my picture lol..
Well good luck...
Hope this helps U.

She may be allergic to her litter, even if she wasn't previously. Try Cat Attract litter and be sure the box is always clean. if the box is old, buy a new one. The scent can linger in the superficial cracks on the litterbox. if she shares with other cats, get an extra litter box.
Nature's miracle will remove the odor completely, but it stinks while it's drying.

This is actually a semi common problem in cats. Often there are three reasons that a cat pees outside their litter box...
1) They are sick
2) Their litter box is dirty
3) They have behavioral problems
It sounds to me like your cat has some type of behavior problem. I would recommend that you talk to a veterinarian to see exactally what is wrong with your cat. Their might be a way to fix the problem or at least help you better deal with it.

My cat does this too if her box isn't clean. I use vinegar and clean the rugs with that and also the pet spray. Change her box more often or use the little scoop thing and take out clumps of cat stuff out of her box. It might might it happier. Also lock it in the room with the cat box while you are away, like the bathroom so it cant ruin the rest of the house! good luck!!

She's probably just marking her territory to let you know whos house it is. Never heard of a female cat do that. If you do catch her in the act, walk over to her tap her on the nose gently and just say a firm "No." And then put her in the litter box, she'll eventually get the idea that she can't pee all over the place hopefully.

I've tried to put the litter box where you found her peeing. If you can find an area that is still wet where she has peed and use a napkin to grab the scent of her pee. The put the wet napkin in the litter box. I've seen this work before.
Good luck! :)
