Genesis 3: 1-14 is the only reference to the serpent and the fruit tree in the Garden of Eden. There never was a reference to the fruit tree being an apple tree.
The devil and demons take many forms in the bible but this is the only passage in which he takes the form of a snake.

a number of Christians wil ltell you he was (or later became) their Satan, but the bible does not support this conclusion.
