Nothing against any religion. you can believe in God in any of his/her/its form. Be it God, Bhagvan, Allah, ....because I believe they are the same. But it should be illegal not to believe in any god. This is the only way we can be safe from Moral decay and eventual bankcrupcy. What do you think?
This is just to spur debate, please don't judge or ridicule....

The dodge: Pastafarian, Atheos, etc.

Is there going to be a sincerity test?

Is worshiping Kali (Thugee) protected while atheism isn't?

It dies on the slippery slope, before you run into the problem of thought control.

Sorry, but I judge your idea as ridiculous.

You want to make it illegal not to believe in at least one deity? So it doesn't matter which one. And how do you enforce actual belief? That is one of the main problems with Pascal's Wager, the assumption that someone could choose to believe in the ridiculous, or that a real god wouldn't be able to tell who was just pretending.

Basically your are supporting the concept of "thought police" and all the other horrors of George Orwells "1984".
The USA is actually much closer to the evils of 1984 than I ever thought possible when I first read that book.

There is no correlation between religion or atheism and "morality" (which is often defined according to religious ideology, therefore differs from one religion to another)

What an idiot.

How on earth would you enforce that law?

Unless you're a mind-reader, you cannot possibly know what somebody believes or doesn't believe.

By the way, belief in religion has caused a lot of immoral things, like the Crusades, the Inquisition, countless wars in Europe over Catholic/Protestant belief, the Northern Ireland problems, the Palestinian problems, 9/11.....

Maybe we'd have LESS "moral decay" without religion.

You'd need to show that:
A) Morals are derived only from gods (and you'd probably need to prove that at least one god actually existed for that)
B) Only atheists are morally bankrupt
C) No believers are morally bankrupt (by believer I mean anyone who says they believe a god exists)

I would like to point out that your question is incredibly insulting. I'm a good person, the atheists I know are good people. You don't know me or anything about me but you're trying to say I'm "morally bankrupt" simply because I don't believe in your diety which is nonsense. If you don't realise that implying that an entire group of people are evil is deeply rude (and really kind of immoral which would destroy your entire argument) then you may have some kind of mental disorder you want to get checked out.

I think that moral decay isn't brought forward by atheists, nor bankruptcy.
And you said (I'm paraphrasing here) "nothing against any religion, no matter which god it worships, because I BELIEVE they are the same. Laws enacted to protect beliefs are unconstitutional. Even if you hadnt said this, a law against atheism would be protective of other metaphysical beliefs.

"This is the only way we can be safe from Moral decay..."

Very interesting, but last time I checked it wasn't the atheists who caused things like 9/11, the Holocaust, and oh, I don't know, the Crusades (as well as other multiple Inquisitions)?

I'd like for you to name me one atheist who caused such significant amount of human suffering and/or moral decay.

No, really, enlighten me. I'm only human, and therefore am bound to be ignorant in some things.

And before you mention anyone like Stalin or Mao, please remember that while they were atheists, they did not use this as a justification for their actions.

As for bankruptcy: whaaa..?

And honestly, when you think about it, when an atheist is caught committing a crime, they have no one but themselves to blame. When a non-atheist does, more often then not their deity of choice "told" them "to do it" and is therefore the one to really blame. If -that- isn't moral decay then I don't truly know what is.

In the same way they should make religion illegal?

Ok. So. Moral decay and eventual bankruptcy are not caused by atheists or atheism at all, it's caused by individuals. And the majority of those people aren't atheists, those who cause the problems.

Right winger bashing the first amendment I see. Moral decay? Like Catholic priests molesting little boys? Moral decay? Like the divorce rate of over 50% in the US alone. Moral decay? Like the hatred religious folk have towards gays and lesbians. Moral decay? Like the same Congressmen you want to pass this law that have sex in men's bathrooms. I certainly hope this law is passed so we are saved from "moral decay" by belief in some kind of religion.

I think it might be very good for the atheists.
They would then become an underground revolutionary force infiltrating and bringing about the fall of religion from the inside.

Like the baby monster in Alien.

Apart from all the other excellent rebuttals you have already received, one must note that if you can't spell "atheist" "or "atheism"
(even with a check-spelling button available)
there's going to be a legal loophole, and your intended "dangerous criminals" will be liable to escape.

Since one would only have to believe in some sort of god, I suppose that will provided a boost for adherents of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
(with no disrespect to His Noodly Appendages)
