Whole, fresh tomatoes should only be stored at room temperature, and ultimately used a few days, at maximum, after getting them home. Refrigerating tomatoes may often change their texture and flavor. However, if you have sliced tomato, you will need to refrigerate them, but definitely use within a day or so.
I would probably keep the cucumber in the refrigerator, sliced or not.
Hope this helps

It is okay, in the sense that they will not become bad to eat in a few hours. For meat and dairy items, as well as leftovers from last night's dinner. When these types of food are in between 40 degrees and 140 degree (This is what is know as the danger zone) Bacteria can grow at a rapid rate. That is why if you leave your leftover chicken out over night it might make you sick if you eat it.
With fruits and vegetables, however, as long as they have not been cut into they are fine to leave out at room temp. The grow in the hot sun for goodness sakes! lol.
The thing is that if want your expensive parishables to last a little while then it is a good idea to put them in the fridge. This will slow down the envitable decomposition of them, turning brown, then moldy, etc.
It is not a bad idea to take them out for a few hours to let them get back to room temp if you are going to cook with them.

Keep tomatoes in the warmer places of the frig, like the door shelf, or else eat soon when ripened. Cukes, I can never get to before they spoil, it seems that way anyway. I love the onion and cucumber salad made the day after. cuke with butter sandwiches are great to.

Tomatoes should be kept at room temperature. Cucumbers however will deteriorate much faster if not refrigerated. One or two days might be okay - depending on how old they were before you bought them

Sure, tomatoes ripen better if they are green if you leave them out, but if they are red they won't last as long if they aren't refrigerated. Cucumbers can be left out, but they don't keep as well for as long out of the frig either.

Never store uncut fruit in the refrigerator (including tomatoes).
Notice how big grocery stores keep their produce: they keep some things refrigerated, others not. They usually know what they're doing.

Yes. I always have my cucumbers in a fruit bowl on my kitchen table.. until they're ready to be sliced for my cucumber salad. But, don't neglect them for weeks because then they'll go bad.

yes, in fact, tomato's value is ruined by refrigeration; cukes okay until cut and then put in fridge
but eat both as soon as possible as they lose all nutritional value within a matter of hours after being picked.
