It's probably different at every base. I know the base that my husband is stationed at is very strict. If the car is not in your name, you have to have a signed permission from the owner stating that you are allowed to use the car at FT such and such for a certain amount of time or indefinitely. You also need your driver's license, proof of insurance and the registration. Here they usually ask you where you are going on base, as in a specific address.

most bases has a Pass Office located just outside the gate where you go in to receive a temporary pass to be able to bring your car on board. you will need the registration, proof of insurance and your DL. be prepared to show Picture ID for all passengers over age 16.

Depending on the base and its policies, your sponsor may have to escort you while on the base at all times.

all bases have different protocol. at our base, you drive in, the visitors lane, stop at the gate entrance and show your drivers license, proof of insurance and registration and address of where you are going. they check a list to see if you are one of the banned persons. we used to have a building you would go in, now they just do it at the front gate.

You just drive up to the gate, you have to have some picture ID, like a driver's license. That's it.....usually. Depends on the base you are referring to though.

In addition to Melanie's answer, if you're bringing your vehicle on base, you need registration and proof of insurance.
