With all due respect, I'd have to argue with your premise. Religions does not fill a need. We would survive without it. It provides nothing that cannot be found outside of religion. Granted it serves to try to answer questions all humans desire to know, but without these presumed answers, we would still go on.
To the second part of your question, God (if he were to exist) is most definitely an egomaniac. It's obvious he totally gets off on being worshipped in the most base fashion. It would seem a perversion.

Religion alone doesn't benefit anybody. Having a relationship with God benefits God and creation.

Religions don't benefit Him. Seeing His children does. He loves us all.

I believe religion benefits God. if those who are worshipping are expressing their love for Him in unity together. I think it makes God happy to see people joining in prayer, worship and love of Him, for when others love God, they will spread that love through works and express their love for God to others in various ways.
God does have feelings, else He would care less one way or the other if we go to hell, heaven or purgatory. Why would He have made heaven, and why do we feel so good when we are worshipping Him, if He has no feelings. I don't think we would feel much of anything if we were worshipping an uncaring God. To care, one must have feelings, so I do believe that when we are giving our all to Him, He feels happy, and when we do not, He feels sadness.

They do not since God is in no need of anything
If God is Eternal Love ,then He will "need" to extend His love to His creatures and that is where real religion should come in
