I doubt I will buy an American car for different reasons, like poor quality and too much of my money would go to the wealthy top dogs.

I am considering Japanese, but are there any others that might be worth it? German maybe?

Here is additional info about preferences of mine if you want them:
1. A car that costs less than about $20k to $25k.
2. Roll down windows (they work well for a long time and are less expensive to repair).
3. A car that is inexpensive to maintain.
4. A four door car with adequate head room (more height for the rear passengers than average).
hard to avoid so maybe ignore -- 5. A car that gives at least pretty good gasoline mileage.
6. A stick shift vehicle.
7. Anti-lock brakes and cruise control.
8. A car that is easier to work on than average (not as cramped for space under the hood).
9. A car that is a little more elevated than average (because for example it might be a little better at traveling over snow).
10. An option of four wheel drive.

Hello,

your requirements are a bit contradictionary. Japanese cars are not easy to work on, and repairs can be expensive. An AWD car of your expectation wipes out gas mileage. Based on what you wrote, your ideal vehicle is close to 4x4 off-road vehicle, like Mercedes G or a Toyota Landcruiser. Maybe you won't get cruise control for these, but these have the best reputation for reliability.

I hope I gave you some inspiration

Regards
