i go on leave in december and i wanted to talk to my old family doctor about some issues i have been having.. the military doc's dont seem to take things as seriously because i guess they think everyone is trying to get over on them.. to get out of the army or whatever.. so i was wondering if i would have to pay the full cost of the doctors visit and prescription or if my army medical insurance would cover it? thanks

Unless it was an emergency,

You would have to cover the cost yourself.

You cannot go to a civilian doctor, for routine care and expect the military to foot the bill.

For you to see your local doctor back home you would have to let Tricare know about it first and get a exception letter for you to see him. It is not out of the question because under Tricare Prime we are authorized to see outside providers as long as their offices accept it as an insurance agencie. The easiest way to find all this out is to go talk to someone at your local Triacare office.

Non-Federal Medical Care is only covered if it is an emergency or no federal facilities are available within 50 miles of your location.

you will be paying out of pocket and you could get into trouble for doing so. you MUST go through your chain of command . You do have the right to request additional medical documentation/second opinion.

Which is more important to you?

Addressing your medical questions?

Getting someone else to pay for it?
