costochondritis-could this be caused by chronic back pain?

Question

I read about costochonditis and it sounds just like what i am experiencing right now- pain in my sternum and tenderness which is what costochondritis does.

But I have had back pain since 03. but the pain in my sternum started about 2 weeks ago.

I am glad u went to read about the costochondiritis I wrote about.. it does sound like that could be it.. but as I said.. I am no Dr..
but the pain in the back I think could be from the accident u said u had a while back..
I no once u see the Dr.. everything will get answered and u will be better..

Just saw my Doc with rib pain! Thankfully not affecting the sternum, just the lower ribs both sides. He listened to my chest ruled out any infection, then told me it was due to the Arthritis. I have RA. I am already on anti-inflammatory drugs but he prescribed me a anti-inflammatory cream and thankfully that is keep it under control.
Problem with back pain, once you experience it you tend to unknowingly change posture to deal with the back pain and that in turn leads to other problems, like costochondritis. You might want to see the Doc get some anti-inflammatory drugs or cream and then invest in a course of Pilate's.

I don't think so. It is more like an arthritic thing that is probably going on in both places. Good luck. Try a non steroidal anti inflammatory like Motrin or Advil. Good luck.
