Should I scratch it with my fingernails, or scrape it off with a cheese grater or something of the sort? Or should I just spend the extra money and see a doctor?
If I go with the second choice, what do you recommend I do with the finely shredded "cheese"? Will it be edible, or no?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Yes remove as much of the poison ivy as possible.
1. Soothe itching with cool, wet compresses.
2. Add approximately 5 c. ground oatmeal or baking soda to a cool bath and soak for 15 to 30 minutes.
3. Add baking soda or Epsom salts to your bath, or make a paste of either of these and apply it to the rash.
4. Opt for lotions containing calamine, alcohol and zinc acetate; these will dry the blisters and help speed healing.

Get some Burts Bee soap and put the cheese grater down!

Yah, I don't recommend the cheese grater. And no it won't be edible. Bummer for you. Butt maybe you should go see the doctor.

No I truly have by no skill had poison ivy..thank gawd...howdy I supply ya A+ for being imaginitive on getting it soaked although..=) howdy I by no skill knew 4 leaf clovers had such cool upload-ons..helpful colorations..=)

Benadryl orally. Calamine lotion applied directly with a cotton ball. Loose fitted clothing. Oatmeal baths. Stay cool the more you sweat the more it spreads. But, How did you get it there anyways, Were you camping where there were no toilets?

no don't scratch it. it will only irritate more. Apply warm water and go to the pharmacist and just get bendodryl to stop the allergic reaction. if you itch it it will probably get infected. See a doctor ASAP,its not anything deadly unless you scratch it so much your hole *** becomes inflated.

Try rubbing some poison oak on it.
I guarantee that you will entirely forget about the poison ivy.
