I have been getting very active in the Masons lately and would like to donate money to charity but I kind of struggle to make ends meet, so it is important for me to know if I donate a large sum of money if that will be tax deductable.

Are all Masonic Organizations tax deductible? I would be 99% sure the shriners are. What about the Scottish Rite, York Rite, Cryptic Masons, Easter Star, etc?

What about local masonic lodges ? Does it vary from state to state wether donating would be tax deductable? I know some lodges may be more actively involved in charity events. And it can vary a lot from state to state. IRS website said at least %50 of income has to go to charity, so I am not sure if all lodges give that much away.

Most lodges I know of are 501(c)3 registered organizations, in the USA; so donations should be deductible.

But you should talk to your tax advisor as to your specific situation - not sure I'd just take what I hear here and send it to the IRS :)

Freemason lodges are not "really just clubs", no other group in the world provides as much benefit to humanity (including the many Christian/Catholic charities).

The answer to your question is "no". Masonic Lodges are really just clubs (similar in nature to fraternities), and while they most often do engage in many charitable activities, they are generally not charities for tax purposes.

Ask them. They will tell you if they are registered 501(c)3 charities.
