Blue eyes is a recessive trait. Both of your parents must have had the blue eyed trait as well as the brown eyed trait. Brown eyes are a dominant trait so they overpowered the blue eyed trait which is why your parents have brown eyes. When you were born though, they both passed you the recessive blue eyed trait, so you have no brown eyed trait to overpower the blue eyed trait, and you ended up with blue eyes. It is fairly common.

Brown eyes are dominant. That means, if a brown eyed gene "mates" with a blue-eyed gene, the child will have brown eyes.
Every person carries genes of all their ancestors in them.
So back some time in each of your parents ancestry, were blue eyes. The sperm and egg that got together to make you happend to both be blue-eyed.
It's not all that rare.
(I've over-simplified things a bit, but that's the basic idea. You do have non-brown-eyed ancestors, even going back not very far, so the genes are there. Your kids could have any color eyes at all, depending on their father, and which particular egg and sperm get together.)

The blue eye gene is recessive, which means that your parents could both have been carriers of the blue eye gene without it showing, because if they also carry the brown eye gene, it will always be the one that shows up. If you inherited both of the blue eye genes (one from each parent), and no brown eye genes, your eyes will be blue. Hope that makes sense!

i think it is possible. the brown eye gene is stronger than the blue eye gene so it is possible that both your parents would have brown eyes but still carry the blue eye gene. they may have a part of the brown eyed gene but two parts blue eye gene and still have brown eyes. but when they combine their genes with each other then the blue eyed genes are just strong enough to over ride the brow eye gene. am i making sense? LOL hope so.

Yes, it is possible to have blue eyes if both parents have brown.
The statistics are numerous and probably not the most common thing. However, blue and green are recessives. If they have been anywhere in your family then they can pop up.
Just because a parents eyes do not appear to have blue or green in them it does not mean that they do not carry a recessive gene.
Keep in mind that this could also mean that your children could end up with brown eyes...though not as common.

genes for brown eyes are dominant over all other colours so both your parents could have 1 gene for blue and 1 gene for brown (because you need 2 genes to factor into eye colour) you obviously inherited both blue eye genes and therefore have blue eyes...i study biology and genetics so i know what im talking about

Blue eyes is a recessive gene. Brown is a dominant. Your parents obviously each have one Blue and one Brown gene, which is expressed as brown eyes in them. You, however, got two blue genes and you have blue eyes. If you have children with a brown eyed person they will have brown eyes if that person is a Brown/Brown genotype and phenotype but if, like your parents, they are Brown/Blue you will have a chance at another blue eyed child.

If I remember my Gr.9 genetics correctly, brown is dominant and blue is recessive, meaning > you only need one brown gene to have brown eyes but you need two blue genes to have blue eyes, so your parents each have one brown and one blue gene, by which they have brown eyes but were able to each give you a blue gene, giving you blue eyes.

blue eyes are recessive. Both your parents have the blue eye gene, but also have the brown eye gene which is dominant. Your blue eyes come from the recessive blue eye gene of both parents..eg dad has brown eyes...gene combination is Bb, mom has brown eyes Bb, you have blue eyes bb, you get the blue gene from both parents.

okay let me explain this.
there are two types of genes:
dominant (like what ur parents have)
resesive (like what ur parents have but do not show)
for instantce, if ur mother has brown eyes, it is a dominant gene. However, that doesnt mean she doesnt carry a blue eyed- gene. many people have more than one eye coloured gene, so the body basically chooses 1.
Now, dominant genes are more likely to show up in kids than resesive genes, just because they are stronger. Obviosly, since u have blue eyes, either your mother, or your father have a resesive blue-eyed gene.
