I was administering oral meds to my 8 week old kitten about four hours ago when he bit down on my thumbs. He did puncture the skin and caused some bleeding. I immediately washed my hands and applied hydrogen peroxide to the wounds. Should I be worried? My thumbs look fine except one is bruised and a little tender.

Unless you think he has been exposed to something, you should be fine.

However, cats, even vaccinated ones, have filthy mouths. Look out for signs of infection and get treated right away if it starts to swell, turn red, or get hot.

One of my mother's very healthy cats bit me on the hand and I got an infection like you wouldn't believe. But Augmentin clears it right up.

your first concern should be was the cat vaccinated for rabies? where did the kitten come from? was the mother cat vaccinated. secondly animal bites can have a lot of bacteria you really should consult your doc. my cat bit my hand and i blew off going to the doc until i started getting blood poisoning ( my whole arm began to swell). good luck hun.

Unless this kitten has rabies, i would not be concerned. If you notice any infection simply go to the doctors and they will be able to help you.
