You can't add a HD component to an old tv. You need:

1. HDTV (1080P) with at least 2 HDMI connections.
2. Upgrade to Direct TV HD packages.
3. HD-DVD or Blu-Ray DVD or a combo HD-DVD/Blu-Ray player.
4. Home theater system that has two or three HDMI connections.
5. Some kick-@$$ HD-DVD or Blu-Ray movies.
6. Six-packs or kegs of beer, chips, popcorn.

You need a HD television. Your old set was only designed to handle 1 type of television signal. HD brings in 2 (or 4 depending upon how you count) types of signals.
