I have several AV components (Cable Box, TiVo, XBox 360, AV Receiver, etc) that I am keeping in an enclosed cabinet (glass front). I am worried about it getting too hot in the cabinet, especially for the XBox which is notorious for overheating. I added a small fan near the top of the back of the case, which I think is helping. I have thermometers in the cabinet that do not exceed 95 degrees F, but I'm not sure if that's still too hot. Is there a good rule of thumb for electronics ambient temperature?

You can let it be that hot - but plan on replacing a lot of electronics. Heat is what kills the electronics.

If you put the fan at the top - make sure it is sucking air out. If you put the fan at the bottom, make sure it is pushing air in.

(Think of a chimney - putting a fan at the top to blow smoke/heat into the room is not usually a good idea).

Put your receiver on the lowest shelf, then give it lots of room above to vent. That heat needs to 'see' open space so it can move away.

The Tivo (and any DVR) are notorious for generating heat. These also must have lots of room above to vent.

You can also cut a strip out the back/bottom of the rack and screw in computer type muffin fans so you can have constant cooling.

Good luck.

It is wise to keep it as cool as possible to prevent overheating.
