"Pullman himself is shocked by how little reaction the books and upcoming films have received thus far. Talking with the Sydney Morning Herald, he confesses, "I've been surprised by how little criticism I've got. Harry Potter's been taking all the flak. I'm a great fan of J.K. Rowling, but the people—mainly from America's Bible Belt—who complain that Harry Potter promotes Satanism or witchcraft obviously haven't got enough in their lives. Meanwhile, I've been flying under the radar, saying things that are far more subversive than anything poor old Harry has said.

My books are about killing God.""

I read the books and hated their total humanistic viewpoint. The writing was good and the story interesting, but I didn't like the message that God really isn't there. (I am a born again Christian.) On the other hand, I don't really care if other people go read the books or watch the movie. How can anyone form an opinion in life if they are never exposed to different viewpoints?

apparently children will be turned to atheism (which is a bad thing) because they'll see a film with talking animals, flying witches and parallel universes

things like this really show how much contempt believers have for atheism

I'm looking forward to the film because I enjoyed the books. Knowing that my going is p!ssing off a theist somewhere makes it even more worthwhile.

It's the fist book in a series. I loved it, read them all. It's a sci-fi fantacy. It has inter-dimentional stuff. Really really good book, I hope that the move is as good.
beware though the book carries alot of heavey bagage with it. No anything bad, just real things that ppl have to deal with. like death and betrail.

It's based on Paradise Lost, but with a heavy dose of sci-fi and God's the baddie. Pretty subversive.

they fail to realize a few things. 1) the first amendment, 2) if they dont want to support it then just dont watch it. there was a similar outcry when "dogma" came out because it makes fun of the catholic church. if you find it offensive to you, then dont watch it.
