Whatever you do, don't work at a restaurant. I cook at one. You'd be amazed at how much food they throw out in the course of a week. I agree with you though. I was raised to not waste food and it always makes me cringe when people toss out perfectly edible items.

Usually my veggies go bad too fast to finish but that's because they're sold in family size packages and bunches. But it's usually a mall amount so I'm not too worried.
If you're this worked up why not use this spare time working for a charity?

To sisterzeal, I have no idea which food bank you're talking about. I volunteer at one and the only food we throw away is long expired or seriously gone bad. We don't "horde' it. It goes out about as fast as it comes in. You sound like you just have some childish political axe to grind. Maybe instead of whining about something you don't know about you could do some charity work.

Well you know if the government wasn't so controlling and has to regulate everything, we could probaby do more about feeding people and sharing! :) The food banks often HORDE so much food because they will only issue so many pounds they throw alot away that is donated to them because of the crazy red tape implemented by Liberals who sit in an office coming up with bright ideas and don't have a clue about the real world, only what their graphs and charts say. Human is wisdom is inferior to God's wisdom. I don't do what you are saying so can't relate. I use every thing I can and am very careful about not wasting.

Dear
I appreciate your concern towards Humanity and its suffering.
I completely agree with you on Affulent people wasting food while millions are dying of hunger elsewhere.
The same thing is happening with Water too. There is a prediction that there shall be wars among people on acquering water.
While It might not be felt by an individual, on the whole if considered it is necessary that all of us think about it.
God Almighty has proportionately created every thing sufficient for the needs of human beings, it is only our system of distribution which is faulty and our selfishness which is causing millions of people to suffer for want of food, water, clothing, shelter and medicines.
May God Almighty guide all of us to attain Piety and have concern for the whole of Humanity Amen.

I would like to know what kind of Ice Cream is spoiled in a week? Never heard of that before. What are you going to do, ship the food to Africa when you are done eating it? Be real here, those people earned their money and they can choose how they want to spend it or waste it. Id rather throw food away when im full then eat it and get fat just because I feel guilty wasting food when other people are starving.

Having empathy for people, who do not have, what we have is a good thing. I don't believe we should be any where near as wasteful as we are. Americans, can get very out of touch, with how the other parts of the world live, or how the poor in our own country live.

Whenever I buy food that goes bad, I re-evaluate my grocery lists. It happens frequently, though. I buy bananas because they sound good, but then I end up not eating them. I try really hard not to waste, though. It's tough in America, when you can just run right down to the store and get more.

Ahh...
You have some of it right about ingratitude. At least with regard to the N. American habit of consumption at all costs.
I do not buy a lot of food. It makes me nuts for something to go bad and so I do make every effort to watch that.

Over consumption is not the reason for world-wide hunger.
1. Underproduction or paid crop destruction to slow population growth.
2. Evil dictators and merchants who drive prices up and make food unaffordable.
3. Famine created by War.
