I usually use mozarella in lasagna and top it off with a sauce containing a blend of mozarella, parmesan and cheddar.

The only other Cheese I have ever put in lasagna, is cottage cheese, it is not as sweet as ricotta if you go to a normal hard cheese your deftly going to change the texture and even the flavor
Try a experiment, using small pans or oven Safe bowl makes 3 or 4 separate little lasagnas, with 1 box of cooked lasagna noodles, meat sauce, mix garlic, egg and parsley in with your cheese, alternate these 3 layers and top with mozzarella put in a 350 degree oven for about 20 minutes or until brown and bubbly find out which 1 you like best.

I use mozzerella cheese, parmesen cheese, ricotta cheese but you can replace cottage cheese for the ricotta. It will change the tecture of the lasagna or you could use some provolone in your layers. I don't like cottage cheese so I would use provolone. And I use the no boil lasagna noodles...they work great.

Here a quick find;
http://www.recipezaar.com/57206
Just drop the Ricotta. May want more provolone. You can try just a small experimental too, then you learn how much cheese.
Another thing that works for simple. If it wet enough with your sauce. Just layer the Pasta dry and cook. It save boiling and should turn out correct.
I just give this link to show using the Noodles dry;

Recipes are just a guide. We can remove and add what we prefer, within reason. So, cheese is variable and we can add more or less of the kind we like depending on how much cheese we like.

I use cottage cheese and mozzarella in my lasagna. Your idea would probably work as well.
