Is there a natural way to eliminate earmites before I take my dog to the vet? Or can I ONLY used a perscription they give to me?

I didn't take him to the vet YET. If you didn't see that in my post, it says BEFORE I take him to the vet.

I've had several cats when I was younger, one of which was diagnosed with earmites. I know what they look like, and it's just just ear wax. It's a constant build-up that is described as such anywhere-books, internet, even on medications for earmites online. It's what it is.

Definately buy over the counter, don't bother having your vet prescribe something, will cost alot more. I buy Thornit Ear powder. Sold only in the U.K. but they send it here too. One small bottle lasts years, kills mites, bacteria, and yeast. My dogs ears are great. Very inexpensive

How do you know your dog has ear mites? Was it diagnosed by the vet? Dogs don't commonly get earmites so unless it has been diagnosed as actually being earmites then it shouldn't be treated as such.
Self diagnosis and self medicating can be very harmful.

Since you haven't taken the dog to the vet yet, then you don't know if it is ear mites (likely it isn't)..dogs get ear infections of various types far more often then they ever get mites.

You can do this yourself if you are careful (The main thing is to not dig to deep into the ear) You'll need a lot of q-tips and oil (vegetable, olive, or baby oil all work fine-the oil smothers the mites and kills them off) Carefully clean the ears with the q-tips, you can dampen them with oil if the crust from the mites is hard and stuck. Once you have removed as much of the "gunk" as you can see, dip a clean q-tip into the oil and coat the inside of the ears real good with it. Repeat this process only every 3 days for about 2 weeks- to do so more often can invite infection. You should also wash your dogs bedding in very hot water and treat any other animals in the house at the same time (even if they now show no signs, a coat of oil will be a good preventive measure)

You should only use the prescription.

Otherwise, you can be doing a lot more harm than good to your dogs ears. We once had a client "treat" ear mites at home based on information over the Internet and now her dog is deaf. Don't make the same mistake.

Since you went to the vet for the proper diagnosis of ear mites, how were you able to leave without a prescription to treat the mites??

once you have got rid of the mites you can keep the dog clear of them by cleaning her/his ears daily i used to use a babywipe to each ear daily and that worked plus it was alot cheaper and my dog never got earmites hun. I would get the mites cleared by the vet 1st then daily use 1 babywipe per ear per day.
